id mobile coverage

Hi My name is Steve

I am an id mobile customer and I have been without any data for 26 days in my flat where I live. There are three large masts where I live in New Invention (WV12) I could stand in front of the mast and receive no signal. If I walked 500 yards to the left of the masts towards Wolverhampton, I was able to make call and receive internet coverage. The same happened if I walked in the opposite direction. However, if I walked towards my home just 200 yards as the crow fly’s I received no data at all. This has gone on for 26 days until yesterday. Now it appears to work.

When my phone first had a fault id mobile offered to let me out of my contract at no charge and I could keep my phone!!! They told me to keep away from Three mobile and all their associate companies.

On Thursday 26th June I went to the Thee shop in Walsall. The manager there drew me a diagram in the shape of a pyramid. He told me that now that 3G has been turned off my phone a Samsung Galaxy 14 is only capable of receiving a small proportion of the 4G wavelength. He told me that I need to buy a Galaxy 16 to receive the signal from them because id mobile piggy back off them.

The advice from Three was contradicted by Currys where I bought the phone package. They checked my phone and told me that all I needed to do was but a Tesco mobile sim only deal and that would do the trick.

When I went to Tesco mobile they too said I needed a to buy a new 5G phone.

Even if my signal with ID mobile is back for good I am still going to make a complaint to Ofcom. I think that there should be more information about which companies piggy back with other companies. I also think that there should be more information about the performance of each mast and which companies use them.

Finally, I will consider taking Id mobile to the small claims court. Recently I have had a number hospital procedures and there will also be follow ups to these procedures. I have therefore had to have a landline fitted so that I have contact with my doctor and New Cross hospital. This may be an unnecessary expense not that my mobile appears to be working.

Are there any other people out there having similar problems with Id mobile?

Yours

Steve

I don't hold out much hope for taking them to court to cover your landline installation.  They would say it was your choice to do that.  It wold probably be cheaper and less hassle to buy a used 5G capable phone for about £100.  You can get used (refurbished) ones on Ebay with a warranty.

I'm with ID Mobile.  I think they use 3Mobile service.  I have good 4G coverage and on/off/medicre 5G; we are 4 miles from city centre.  I have a Google Pixel 7 but previously had a Galaxy S20, both are 5G.  In fact I did have a problem once, I could not receive any calls or data, so I had to phone them up and they reset something.  But apart from that it's been ok.

I'm not an expert but I don't think a 5G phone would improve anything if there's no fault with your current phone.  You would still predominantly pick up 4G and then occasionally get the faster 5G depending where you go.  I've had 5G phones for the last 4-5 years and rarely do I see a 5G signal.   A 5G phone just enables you to pick up 5G signals where possible, and has no impact on normal (4G) signal.

Steve you won’t get anywhere with OFCOM regarding a perceived lack of information as to which networks use which mast and what frequency bands are on each mast. OFCOM used to have a “site finder” page which showed the exact location of each site, probably for security reasons that page has been removed.

Details of which physical network each virtual network uses are on this site (I guess you didn’t look).

You can check the predicted coverage at the web site of any of the four networks. Some used to ask for the model of phone you use, although that seems to no longer be the case.

Hi Steve. Complaining because you don't know something is totally pointless. It is well known that ID are a Three MNVO and if you didn't know when you signed up that's your problem.
I'm guessing that you have the 4g only A14? That phone is compatible with all of the 4g bands so there's no need to change it. It doesn't matter if it can't receive 5g as that service is very much on top of 5g at the moment and isn't replacing it. Obviously having signal problems is very frustrating but if you have been given the option to leave ID I would take it. Voxi are a decent MNVO with Vodafone.
