I think the printer is likely to break before it runs out of ink. It’s duplex and wireless. Only catch is that it’s not a photo printer. It does print adequate photos on photo paper but not quite to same standard as a dedicated photo printer. Also have you had any issues when not using it for periods of time with the ink drying up?
I suspect Xerox will be overkill for your needs but Brother can often be found around the price of an inkjet and have low priced toners. IMV, if you plan on printing more than 500 sheets per year, you should at least consider a laser.0 -
I am fully aware of the HP Instant Ink programme having used it for years myself. When they hiked their prices this year I did cancel it and install a normal HP cartridge as this worked out cheaper for me. I didn't have issues with the printer not working.
AFAIK, if you unsubscribe, it stops working with the cartridges supplied via the Instant Ink program.
You have to take them out and throw them away, even if they still have plenty of ink in them. ( much fuming about this on Trust Pilot etc)
Then if you install a new HP cartridge you have bought yourself, the printer should work OK, which is what you did.1 -
I decided that the cost of buying a printer and ink replacements was to high for little old me. I now just go to my local library and print there at 20p a sheet. Can even send the docs to the library electronically and they print them off for me.0

We had a Canon which nearly went through the window, because we were using Linux not Windows.
Epson may be OK now, but I didn't like that they USED to object to generic cartridges.
Our local printshop and purveyor of cartridges recommended HP, and I certainly haven't had any problems with the latest one.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I'm another who is a very light user of printer facilities - the option to edit and transfer securely online means I barely had to use it and on the rare occasions I needed to print I would find the cartridge had dried up. So I was happy to dispense with it some years ago and happy to reclaim the space.
On the very rare occasions I need to apply a wet signature to a document I take it to my local library to print. Admittedly, it isn't as convenient as printing from home, but at 20p per sheet it is cost effective and the truth is I would need to go out and post it anyway. (Thanks to HMRC for this lived experience, btw).
No man is worth crawling on this earth.
So much to read, so little time.0 -

I use the printer everyday and have never had an issue with clogs or paper jams etc. It's wireless & USB connectable, if required. I managed to pick my printer up 2nd hand and there are some available for around £30-£50. Have a look on ebby & vint.
I had a Canon and it happily used generic cartridges, and then it did not like one set and it caused quite a few problems.
I guess that could happen with any printer.Fortunately, never had a problem with generics, but plenty with HP printers using ink refills & original cartridges drying out
