Copilot - spooky !

I've used copilot a lot in the last year.  Yesterday I needed to upload it a file for its opinion.  So, for the first time I needed to login, which I did via my Microsoft account.  I understood that when you log in it saves the conversations.  Remember - I have never logged in before yesterday.
But when I looked at the history I found that it listed ALL my interactions with it going back a year.  How did it do THAT !?

How have you been interacting with copilot all this time?

There are tricks such as web browser/device fingerprinting that services use to recognise repeat visitors who aren't logged in (though they're not bullet proof). This can also be done through the use of cookies (if using a web browser)

Probably if you read the T&Cs it will tell you it stores everything. If you ever purchase a Copilot+ PC the privacy issue will be even worse.

You may not have logged in to Copilot, but do you use any Microsoft software?  The data will no doubt be harvested and uploaded to Copilot when you do log in.

As mentioned, services can use cookies or browser/device fingerprinting (IP address can be a part of this). When you eventually do log in and the same fingerprint or cookie is read then any previously captured activity assigned to the fingerprint/cookie can now be assigned to your login.

EDIT: This is just one possible mechanism. It just goes to show anonymity is hard these days (and that includes CCTV etc in the real world). I'm at peace with it all, don't let some conspiracy theorists worry you too much if that's the case.

All windows 11 onwards PCs require a windows registered account to be able to use the device.

I wonder how my W11 PC is working then????????

As far as AI is concerned, the Genie is well and truly out of the bottle and he ain't ever going back in.
Life's too short to worry about your imagined privacy, odds are no one of any consequence is interested in minutia of peoples lives.

Copilot Recall is spooky. Snapping screenshots regularly. And of course the processor chips that mean you simply cannot flash a different operating system on these PCs. Microhard creating a new monopoly. Don't worry, you will own nothing and be happy.

Alternatively, you can just decide not to opt in to Recall.
