How can I learn Python in my own time, informally?

Hi all

I want to stay learning Python… simply to stop me wasting my evenings watching Facebook junk videos etc when I could be using my time better. I’ve decided that I want to learn a programming language and I’ve chosen Python. So, I went to Google and every ‘free’ course always ends up not free. The same on YouTube. Conversely, I actually don’t mind paying if the course suits me and fits in with me, as opposed to me fitting in with the course. I need something that I can pick up and put down when I want. As of now, it’s 9:50pm and I’ve just spent the last 2 hours on my phone sat up in bed watching absolute ***** videos on Facebook. I could have been using that time to learn something. So, without further ado… please can I have your recommendations where to start guys? It would be a HUGE advantage if I could learn on my iPhone, because it’s in my hand 24/7… even in bed! If it needs to be a tablet etc I am willing to buy a new iPad or tablet etc. I work full time so I can’t go to college. It has to be a program I can do at home in the evening when I’m in the mood. For example, this weekends weather forecast is VERY hot, so I will more than likely choose the pub beer garden, not learning. However, I might want to do an hour on Sunday etc etc. Can anybody suggest a program etc that will allow me to learn Python in my own time?
thank you all.

Set up an account on Claude, the best LLM for coding assistance and give it an instruction like - "Can you create a beginner-friendly Python course I can follow using my iPhone? I want it in short, fun daily tasks (10–20 minutes max), preferably with something practical each time. I want to build something useful every few lessons. Assume I’ve never coded before. Also, send encouragements like a coach."

I think the Harvard cs50 course through edex is fab. Completely free, there's a series of modules with a main lecture, mini lectures, then exercises, with hints available. You put your code for each exercise through an automated testing programme to give you feedback on whether it works (which can be a little glitchy, it doesn't like unexpected spaces in answers, but is otherwise great - it tells you which test it failed and the actual Vs expected outcome).

This might be a controversial idea ...
    Buy a book. Read it.
    Something like this:
    N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.
    2.72kWp PV facing SSW installed Jan 2012. 11 x 247w panels, 3.6kw inverter. 34 MWh generated, long-term average 2.6 Os.
Not exactly back from my break, but dipping in and out of the forum.
