Absolutely chuffed. Like said above ,took 5 minutes and two screws loose on the inside.
Have also learnt from it that locking door from outside prevents someone on inside of house from opening it from inside. That's ok in my house as there is way out through back door. But if this were a flat someone could get locked in , or am I overthinking it and am getting it that wrong and flats don't have this type of lock.

You're not over thinking it, this is a risk with some types of nightlatch, and so there's rules...

We live in a flat and had a non compliant nightlatch on our front door. We replaced the door which came with a compliant nightlatch, but we disliked the fact it didn't double lock (which the previous one did) so replaced it with a non compliant lock that does double lock.

We have an alternative exit, but this also requires a key to open - it is therefore possible for someone to be locked in, in our flat with no escape. If we rented the place out the compliant lock type goes back on the front door as a minimum.

Crikey. Thanks. It was new to me this afternoon.
I learned a couple of years ago not to leave key in inside back door of house as that prevents entry from outside.

The emergency services (police, fire brigade) carry a big red key that will open most doors. If that fails, they'll get out a chain saw.

Yes. But I might go round house looking for other things to fix after now after yesterday's success. I think I'm a locksmith now. And grumpy codger pictures don't scare me now.
I've seen the big red key on traffic cops.
