Help with rogue trader

Options
I had a tradesman come and do some roofing work last year.

The company was called Beta Roofs in Rotherham. I have tried making contact with the tradesman and they have ignored me completely even after sending letters via CAB.

Has anyone got any advice? Even taking legal action, there is no guarantee of getting my money back. It's unfair he is getting away with this.

    1. what went wrong? What are you trying to prove and get back?

    Thats the first thing.

Then you need to prove it - if it's duff workmanship - get an independent report.

Then once you have quantified what you want - ie you owe me £10,000 you send a letter before action, and then a small claims court ( now called money claim on-line ).

You could also contact trading standards and any trade association assuming they are a member.

    Thank you for responding.

The roof was leaking during wet weather and pooling water. He had not removed the original felt roof as the picture shows.

I had a quote from a second roofer that can put something in writing to say what work has been done since.

No they won't be on CH as they're not a Ltd company. I don't believe he is paying VAT either although he charges enough that he should be.

Sorry for all the posts. I have emailed Beta Roofs once more today and no reply. I also sent a letter recorded delivery back in April to which I had no reply.

It is so unfair. Regulations need to be tighter to stop people like Jim Broadway getting away with ripping off customers and taking their hard earned money

You say you have a problem with Beta Roofs in Rotherham.

Can you confirm that your post has no connection with Beta Roofing in Rotherham, a limited liability company registered at Companies House as No 15875456?

Do you have a contract with them? Or a formal written quote? Either of those should identify the legal entity you are dealing with (the quote its likely to be on the footer, a contract it will be near the start) but on the surface it looks like its a sole trader which has its pluses and minuses.

A quick look at the property they have listed as their address suggests its a council house so there may be questions of what assets they have to recover any debt from.

How do I edit a post? I see no option anywhere.

I have quotes in writing but no contractual information.

I don't believe it is the same firm that is listed on Companies House. He is a sole trader.
