Stopping Universal Credit

Hi all

Does anyone know what happens when you tell the DWP that you no longer need UC?

Do they stop your payments immediately?

During August I can start to access my personal pension but I am not sure whether I need to tell them now or nearer the time,

Thank you

Neither really, your pension should be reported via RTI so they will know when it gets paid and take it into account.    If and when it nils you entitlement you can close the claim online.

Although personal pensions do report to HMRC through RTI, UC does not automatically take pension payments into account (it's not part of the data sharing contract DWP have with HMRC).
The UC claimant MUST declare a change of circumstance when they start receiving a personal pension and UC manually add this to the claim as a deduction for unearned income (pound for pound).
If the private pension is going to be more than the UC award, then clearly this will NILL the award, effectively ending it. If this is the case, the OP could simply ask for their claim to be closed knowing that they will no longer be entitled (probably easier than attending an evidence appointment to provide details of the pension payments).
In answer to the question of when to tell them and when to end the claim, you should notify them on the date you receive the first payment and the UC award will end immediately if you ask them to close the claim.
