Pregnancy related medical conditions and travel insurance.

Options
We’re going away next month and I’m trying to sort travel insurance. We’ve not needed it before and previously covered by my husbands work and before that I was single and child free.

I know you don’t have to declare your pregnancy as a medical condition but do
you have to declare if you had Gestational Diabetes or Pre-eclampsia during your pregnancy? The thing is some places don’t even have these illnesses listed but they do say you have to declare all medical conditions. Any advice?

Thanks.

Dont over think it, just answer the questions honestly and completely... dont do the "I had preeclampsia 1 year ago and they are asking for everything in the last 5 years but I'm sure they dont mean that" which has resulted in several people on here having claims declined.

What they will ask for varies by insurer so if you are shopping around make sure you read the question properly each time as different firms want different timescales and may vary the things they want to know about irrespective of timescales (cancer, heart attack, stroke etc)

The issue is that these conditions aren’t listed in the drop down menu and as far as i can tell there isn’t an opportunity to write it in.

There should be an ‘other’ or something similar box which you tick which gives you a telephone consultation. My OH can never fill in tick boxes, we always have to fill in the contact box and talk to someone.

Vast majority of companies use the same medical screening software, even if they badge it differently so it looks to fit with their website. Having looked at one that uses this software pre-eclampsia, gestational high blood pressure and gestational diabetes are selectable.

If you've picked an insurer that doesnt use the normal software, and even then I'd be surprised if they didnt include them, then just choose another insurer.

Which insurer are you trying to use? Or are you doing something on a price comparison site

I'd be surprised if any have an "other" box, would instead expect them simply to have instructions to say if your condition isnt listed to phone.

Have tried a couple of the price comparison sites and some individual. Sainsbury’s bank give you option to declare so will go with them just to save me the headache of searching and over thinking.

Which one did you use? I’ve tried - money super market, go compare, post office, Tesco, Aviva and Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s is the only one that list thaws conditions so would be good to know which one you’ve checked. Thanks.
