On 7th June, I went into a Next store and bought a pair of jeans.  I tried to return them today for a full refund and was told that I had to get a voucher as it was outside of their 28 day full refund returns policy window.

I was told that they start their '28 day' clock from midnight the night before (16hrs before I even entered the shop...).  Is anyone aware if there is a Next clothing store in the UK which is even open at midnight?  I'm pretty sure there isn't...  And doesn't this mean that their true full refund returns policy is 27 days since they're saying I would have had to have bought the jeans on 6th June to get a full refund today.

So, they’re saying that day 1 starts on the day of purchase. What time you purchased at is irrelevant.

You need to check the terms of their policy. If it is what they say it is, then that’s that. There is no legal right to a refund for anything purchased in a shop if it’s just a change of mind. Retailers returns policies are over and above your statutory rights. They only have to follow their own policy.

It simply says '28 days' except when you query it instore it turns out they start counting the night before...

By counting from the day of purchase (not the night before - midnight is the start of the day) your 28 days was up yesterday.

Take the voucher. They don’t even have to offer that.

No.  Not the night before.  Counting the day of purchase as day 1.

From midnight on the day before means day 1 is the 7th.  This means it applies to all items bought on 7th.

Do you expect them to  measure  every return period from the time  the item was bought?

So if you bought at 9am it is 28 days from 9am but if you bought at 3pm it would be from 3pm?

I have seen people arguing, on this site, that the clock should start at the time the item was purchased, not just the date!
