We have 3 squirrels that frequently visit our garden, yes I know they're cute but they are causing damage to many of our smaller plants.
I've tried the chilli and other plants options to deter them but with no great success. Has anyone any suggestions how to tackle this problem?  Are Ultrasonic repellents worth trying?

Look forward to your suggestions / experiences

I did that when one of them was small, they are now quite large and a bit more wary of cages

It's against the law to release a grey squirrel into the wild, even if you've just caught it out of the wild.  So legally, if you catch one, you have to kill it.

    Just saying.

When I was a kid people, somehow, dispatched the little blighters and got one shilling taking the tail to a police station. Didn't reduce their numbers much but it was great sport. Maybe buy an air gun?

They have to be humanely killed in situ if trapped, so no carting off to chuck in the canal  >:)

I didn't know that but have checked on Internet and you are absolutley right. So a squirrel that is living wild in my garden cannot be released into the wild (which in effect is where it already is !!!).   Charles Dickens was right "the law is an !!!!!!)

So my options are I can either break the law or kill a wild animal. Thats an easy choice.

Or change your approach to these small plants. It's annoying, but it's their home too.

Or pay someone else to kill the squirrels.  Have to admit I'd find it a bit difficult, they are strong and move fast and have sharp teeth!   The trouble is if you have any trees or hedges nearby, dispatching the current three will not be a permanent solution.
