Competitions Time Discussion Options Menu - Mute/Unmute

The Discussion Options menu icon now appears against every thread (see pic below). It used to only appear against threads that you had started and for these the only option was Edit. Now it gives you a Mute option against every thread, and if you click on Mute you get an Unmute option. On threads you started you get both Edit and Mute options.

1) Can someone explain exactly what the Mute option does.
I wonder if it is something that would satisfy the request from @vacheron in June to disable notifications for specific threads where one has participated:

2) Before this change, the presence of the icon in Forum View was very useful because it was easy to see threads you had started as they were the only ones with the icon. If this change is permanent, then please can we have a replacement to make it easy to spot those threads you started. Almost any icon or colour would do the job.

Yes, this is indeed a way to stop receiving notifications for posts that you would normally be notified about based on your Notification settings. We hope this helps with the requests mentioned in the thread.

Unlike the previous time where there was a bug and we could put in a small fix, in this case, having options menu beside every post so that you can mute is expected and useful behaviour.

But I'll also take a closer look at how this applies to Competitions Time and your specific use case.
