Qatar abandoned us in Istanbul

Departed Edinburgh to Doha at 15.45 on the way to Maldives for our honeymoon and got diverted to Istanbul as Doha bombed. 1st night Qatar took us to a hotel 30 mins from the airport at midnight with no information. Travel agent called us at 13.00 next day with offer from Qatar to take us to Doha so rushed to Istanbul airport to be denied check in as journey not ending at Doha. Qatar staff clueless. Asked for repatriation but offered through Doha which travel agent strongly advised against. After 8 hours queuing and no progress Qatar put us up another night in Istanbul airport. We were then forced to buy flights home to Edinburgh for £580. Nowhere to complain to so what can we do? Is compensation due?

Was this during the missile exchange between Israel and Iran by any chance?Alshi said:Qatar staff clueless.
You were offered repatriation but declined. The plane presumably returning to it's original destination i.e. Doha.
Were you expecting to be rerouted to the Maldives?1 -
What do you mean by "forced to buy flights home"? Did you have travel insurance?"You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "0

Have you or your agent actually tried to contact Qatar Airways?
They have a UK contact number and live chat.

Declined as there were at least 24 hour delays and no onward flights home scheduled. They also offered Turkish airlines flight to Male which would have cancelled our flight home. They were making it up as they went along. You assume too much.Hoenir said:

When its treated as war no travel insurance covers you.sammyjammy said:What do you mean by "forced to buy flights home"? Did you have travel insurance?0 -
I'm not assuming anything. Simply trying to look at the bigger macro picture. With Doha closed for a period. Emirates entire fleet would have been severely dislocated. With many thousands of pssengers impacted. That's all. Equally other airlines routing across the Middle East airspace suffered severe disruption.Alshi said:

LOL, Emirates were affected but they aren't based in Doha.Hoenir said:

As for getting flown to Male with Turkish, yes that would have meant you hadn't flown the whole of the outbound Qatar Airways itinerary but also no reason for them to not reissue a one way back from Male as that flight would not yet have been cancelled.
@Alshi, as I asked before, have you or your agent actually contact Qatar Airways since your return?1 -
Wasn't just the airspace around Doha that was closed. Assume you know the geography of the region. We all make typo's.Ayr_Rage said:

Yes, we've tried but no answers yet. How would you suggest I contact them?Ayr_Rage said:
