Using an eSIM adapter in a conventional mobile phone

I have an older Xiaomi mobile phone that I would like to use for navigating on my travels, rather than carrying my expensive phone in front of me when walking in busy areas.

To that end I would like to use an eSIM and have seen adapters advertised to allow this to be done. Does anyone have any opinions or experience of using one of these devices? It would make life easy if such a device worked well.

It does depend on what phone you use.   As far as I know, it only works on certain phones that support the Open Mobile API (OMAPI).

I used to work with a guy who bought a JMP eSIM adapter.    The software is open source and works well.   I've put a link to the app below :

JMP SIM Manager – Apps on Google Play

When you install the app on your android phone, there is a compatibility checker button that will tell you if your phone will work with an eSIM.     He picked up the adapter when in the US for $39.   He uses it quite a lot and swears by it, says it's very easy to register the eSIM.    I don't fully understand why he doesn't just buy a phone that supports eSIM anyway but he won't

I've not heard much about the other eSIM adapters out there, only this one.

Edited to add - There is a trusted website that goes into detail with the JMP adapter (the reviewer actually uses a Xiami phone) :

Peter, thank you very much for this info. I'll read up on the articles and take it from there.

    Hi liggerz87,

Did you buy it from the UK or import it from the US?
