Car Purchase

So we bought a car from a dealer this week. The current MOT showed no advisories, but when I checked on line for it's previous record the following came up, (I'm concerned with the sub frame advisories because they can't just disappear). I plan to take the car to my trusted garage on Monday, for them to look underneath, if he finds what I suspect he will I'll take it up with the dealer, (I did pay by credit card). Any advice gratefully received.

Current MOT - May 26 - shows no advisories

MOT - May 25
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
  • Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
  • Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
  • Front Sub-frame is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced (6.1.1 (c) (i))
  • Rear Sub-frame is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced (6.1.1 (c) (i))
  • Vehicle structure is corroded but structural rigidity is not significantly reduced General underside of vehicle corroded (6.1.1 (c) (i))
What are advisories?

The only advice at the moment is to await the verdict of your trusted mechanic.

It's a shame you didn't check the MOT history or use your trusted mechanic to check the car over before you purchased it.  You may have saved yourself a lot of hassle.  Ultimately, unless your mechanic's verdict is that the car is unroadworthy, I don't see that you have grounds to reject the car because an advisory is just that - it's advice.  One tester's view of corrosion might differ from another's, although it does look like the most recent tester has missed or decided to ignore corrosion two previous testers saw fit to mention, but that's a dispute with the test station rather than one with the selling dealer, unless the dealer was the tester?

What was the wording of the advertisement?  That might prove to be important.

Hello. At times, different people will score what they see differently and some may be more lazy than others, some will note even the slightest of thengs, so it can come down to the way what they see is recorded or not. I'm not defending anyone but just pointing out that checks of every type can vary from person to person even when working to the same rules/regualtions/etc.

What car is it as there is a car that has historical problems with their rear subframe, as a one car maker is known to replace FoC if rust is from within the rear subframe at times.

Even if there is corrosion - it may still only be an advisory

Sounds like a bit of surface rust has been treated. Not unexpected on an old car. See what the mechanic thinks

If it is simply surface corrosion that's not been deemed serious enough by the last tester, or that it's been treated since the previous test then all is well.  Wait and see what your mechanic thinks, but there doesn't look to be anything misleading in the (very bare) description from the advert.

Not nice to hear but I feel like that it was an advisory a year ago. A more recent MOT hasn’t raised any concerns. As for as a seller goes they have sold in good faith. Sold as seen.
iF you could PROVE there was dishonest but the seller you may have someting to fight back, but I doubt you’d be able to ?
    No expert though

"Sold as seen" isn't a concept that fully applies to a dealer, though.  A dealer can't simply shrug and say "sold as seen" to a buyer encountering problems.

Until OP has a verdict from their mechanic there's nothing to be done.  If the mechanic's opinion is that the car is unroadworthy then OP needs to consider their options.

Best way forward is to see what the seller has to say. Ifyou get a response that you feel is not helpful, post here again and see what others recommend.
