I just had my gas boiler serviced and they suggested I get a carbon monoxide detector.
He did offer to sell me one for £39.99

Which being a dedicated MSE'r I declined
So anyone out there suggest a sensible priced one? ! did apply for a free one from somewhere posted on the freebie board but it never arrived

Hubby got done, he is gullible. Being a money saver I was quite crossed with him.You can buy exactly the same one on ebay for £20. Check it out.0 -
If you are on benefits or maybe even if you aren't I thought you could get these fitted free by your local fire brigade? Or is that just smoke detectors
?

If you can't get a free one Corgi will sell you one for £22.77, same as British Gas supply.

There are a few sellers on Ebay so it may be worth looking on there for a new one.0 -
You will be better off with a CO Alarm rather than a detector.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

This Kidde one is a combined smoke / monoxide detector - simply replace the existing smoke alarm with it. It's a voice alarm - tells you what it's detected, and you can't ignore it. Slight American accent - but excellent nevertheless;)

.... but Google around a bit for a cheaper price.! did apply for a free one from somewhere posted on the freebie board
.. that's probably all it was worth. As both fire and CO are killers - it's worth a few quid, from a household name brand, to be safer????If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
The detector is usually a device which changes colour if carbon monoxide is detected. The alarm gives an audible sound which you are more likely to hear than to remember to look at the detector colour.0

A detector only is generally a piece of paper which changes colour in the presence of CO egTesco Carbon Monoxide dot's which are a small sticky square that you place on or near your boiler and should there be a Carbon Monoxide leak the dot will start to darken and turn black. The down side to using these dot's is remembering to check each night and morning. You can also purchase a electronic detector which works in much the same way as a smoke alarm letting out a loud noise when detecting Carbon Monoxide
- can in no way be confused with a detector coupled to an alarm (as often sold as a 'detector' as an 'alarm'). It's just a play on words! If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0
