Sky box loosing connection

Options

I have a similar post up but it's about mounting a sky glass but I would love some advice as to the reason we are getting sky glass.

Sp the reason we are getting sky glass tv is because since we moved in 1 year agol every couple of days the network losses connection on the sky box looses connection to the sky hub and asked ages to reset it. We have done everything moved the hub closer even though it's only 12 feet away, changed hubs changed boxes had 3 different engineers out, added a booster etc etc and after a year we are sick of the issue. So we were told that if we get sky glass we won't have that issue anymore as it's not going to need to be connected via the WiFi network to the box anymore. Does that sound right?

Also have been told we could just get a ethernet cable and connect the sky box to the sky hub and then the sky box wouldn't keep disconnecting from the sky network connection? Do you think we should just do this?

I think there is no sky dish cable needed for Glass and internet is needed for sky to get working.

I don't know much about Glass but you will need an ethernet cable from router to the TV.

I would not buy sky glass as you can just buy a new TV and get sky stream for less than what people pay for the sky glass tv but each to their own.

I've been wanting a new TV for a while and thought this is a good way to get one and oay in installments.

I hope the new sky glass has better picture than my current tv? Is there anyway to know?

Can I connect sky glass via ethernet also as wireless?

Yes, it has an ethernet port and also supports WiFi 6.

For both Sky Glass and Sky Stream the required connection to the broadband router can be either by WiFi or ethernet.

If using ethernet go into the device menu and ensure WiFi is switched off, according to the Sky forums having just the one connection active works best.

Check you have well in excess of the recommended broadband speed especially if you have a busy household that uses a lot of bandwidth.

I spoke to another sky advisor just now and she said that switching to sky glass most probably won't resolve the broadband issue, it's just like switching from a iPad to a phone.
She said that an ethernet cable is probably the best option. So Im going to try an ethrrnet cable.

Maybe still go ahead with glass as its already ordered. Just not sure if it will be good. I was worried that we won't have a recordings list and will have a My list. Not sure if we will like that
But guess that's the same with Netflix and that's fine.

If I get sky streaming or sky glass, how soon do they disconnect the sky dish as want to give it a few days to make sure we like sky glass or sky streaming first?

Also if the WiFi goes down with streaming or glass can you just connect it too anothet WiFi connection?

Also if the tv went in the blink could I just plug in my smart tv and watch that while the sky glass tv gets fixed or replaced etc? Not sure how my hisense smart tv receives signal for it's channels? Any idea? Don't know if it's through sky etc? This is my current tv I want to keep as a spare if we get glass or streaming.

You should already know what happens on your Hisense TV when you turn Sky off and select other inputs and whether you have an antenna on the roof for Freeview.

If your broadband fails then it is possible to tether Glass/Stream to a phone or use mobile broadband router but it needs a decent speed and uses a lot of data.

Once you activate Glass or Stream your satellite TV will be disabled straight away as you cannot have both systems on the account.

If you have older Sky+ HD then if you do not like Glass/Stream you will not be allowed to revert but will have to get Sky Q and that may need a new LNB on your dish.

If you have a communal Sky feed upgrades to Q may not be possible.

    Lots of research to do!

My Sky Q randomly disconnects - it's not my broadband signal as everything else is fine. I've tried an ethernet connection and it's not made much, if any, difference so my presumption is the Sky Q box internet connection is a bit rubbish. I use Roku and/or my smart TV for streaming now rather than the Sky Q apps

Ultimately it depends on what the problem is etc. Generally a cable connection is much more reliable than wifi or other cableless technologies. Do other devices have issues with connection to the router at the same time?

With the original Sky Tele the people who's opinion I would trust said it was poor quality but this is from people spending 4 figure sums on TVs and 5 figure sums on projectors so their reference bar is high. Trying to avoid temptation as of late so haven't been having conversations with them on AV equipment recently so can't say if the new generation is any better or worse.

I cancelled our Sky Q recently - partly because we weren't really watching anything, but also because the Sky Q doesn't always work when we do want to watch something. It would regularly lose network connection between the main Sky Q box and the mini box in the other room, and just couldn't maintain a strong WIFI connection to the router. I would spend half the evening resetting everything so we could watch it - other times I wouldn't bother and it would work fine the next day without touching anything.

Over the last few years I have tried powerplugs with ethernet, direct ethernet cabling, Sky boosters, replacement boxes - nothing improved it.

I have a very fast and stable 600 Mpbs internet connection, with very reliable commercial grade WIFI network as I work from home without any issues. With the same internet contract, same router, same WIFI, and same TV in the same location, I now get perfect connection with a Firestick, so literally the only factor is the Sky Q box.
