Help! No no room at hotel!

I booked 2 weeks in a specific hotel abroad, arrived about midnight only to be told no room available for me. Hotel said it was the travel agents fault. Had to get moved to another hotel which was very stressful being late at night. The said it was a better hotel but we booked the original for a special reason. Stayed at other hotel for 1 week then had to pack up and go back to original. Trying to get in touch with travel agent but no reply to my numerous emails. Very stressed due to having medical problems which didn't help with all the problems. Can anyone help as I am trying to claim compensation from them. Thanks all very much.
