Much easier to find proof of mother's citizenship if the country registers births. Whereas naturalisation certificates are not public documents like birth death and marriage are.Voyager2002 said:silvercar said:
So maybe the answer is to get the girl a passport from the country where the mother has nationality. There should be an embassy in this country that can issue passports.Voyager2002 said:silvercar said:Can someone born in the UK be denied British citizenship, if that leaves them with no nationality at all? I thought there were special rules in this case.
In this case, the girl's mother has another nationality and so our Home Office could argue that the girl has that as an option, and so the special rules do not apply.
Maybe. The embassy would of course require evidence that the mother was one of their citizens, evidence that might not be available. And of course the child would be subject to the visa requirements that apply to citizens of that country, meaning that the bureaucratic processes involved in a trip to Spain or Italy would be significant.1 -
That depends on what the situation is for people with that nationality entering the UK. If the second nationality was Russian, for example, then they'd need to apply for a visa to enter the UK on their Russian passport which most likely cannot be applied for from inside the UK and will only give them limited rights to remain in the UK before they are deemed an overstayer.silvercar said:

Do you know when the mother naturalised. If it was before 2002 it’s unlikely that there are records on the system so the certificate will have to be obtained from the national, archives. Presumably the mother had a passport at some time. Do you have her birth certificate. That can be one of the documents that can be used to search passport records for her passport
