I am in the process of buying a new car, it will be an EV. But I am interested in people's experience with EV repairs.

Where do you go? OEM, franchise garage, independent garage.
Do you use an any app or website to find them?
What is your general experience with finding a skilled EV garage?

Look forward to your thoughts!

Thanks,

I pay the main dealer £159 for the ubiquitous cabin-filter-change and a service stamp each year.

My son takes care of all wear and tear stuff including MoT checks either on the drive or on a ramp at work.

    Local Kwik Fit for tyres.

We have a local backstreet garage in the next village we use for MoTs - they trained for EV work a few years ago so they'll do the MoTs.

If you are talking about a brand new EV then although you don’t need to I would still use a main dealer rather than an independent who might cut corners that could invalidate the warrantee. If you have an EV specialist near you that might be an alternative. Unless your are a very high milage user most EVs come with two year service intervals.

While in warranty I use Dealer I bought car from or same brand dealer local to me. While it may cost a bit more, it's less problems if you have to claim under warranty.

In reality, unless you are talking about the electrics side, then any dealer can deal with the running gear. As they are no different to a ICE.

HEVRA is the EV specialists to look for.

Enjoy the car, far less to go wrong.

It's hard to get a cabin filter wrong.  My last main dealer service actually missed a couple of things that my son corrected.  I replaced the key battery because they clearly hadn't even though it was ticked.

Cabin air filter is usually one that gets missed, as no one checks 🤣

Without a fuel filter to replace, main dealers needed something awkward they could miss off without people noticing...

Yes a tick means nothing in the motor servicing industry. I assume it does in the airline industry.

Unfortunately the contribution of aftersales - especially parts - to the lifetime profitability of a motor vehicle has historically been significant.

You don't "service" a washing machine or a laptop - the fact that EVs can be engineered to never require a service is just very, very awkward for the legacy car makers given the industry is stuck with its aftersales drug...

I found a well reviewed Tesla Indie garage in Reading, which isn't that far from me. Will be looking to use them if I need any work doing to mine now I don't have an after market warranty to use that I went to my nearest Tesla service centre for.

As above, don't intend to do any regular servicing.
