hoping I have posted in the correct group.
so a while back I completed the form via Martin Lewis website to claim back any misold finance - Motonovo responded and said that I have a claim and il hear in due course. that was a few months ago I have today received an email from Courmacs Legal Ltd thanking me for choosing them to take on this misold claim and that they will be taking a charge. im confused as to how they have all my details including name, date of birth, current and previous addresses and agreement numbers unless Motonovo passed the details over? also confused as to how my signature is also on the document they sent me when I haven’t signed anything before not even on the form via Martin Lewis.

either way they are telling me il be charged - anyone else had this and can advise?

If you are using someone else to make a claim rather than doing it yourself unfotunately there will always be a charge, its just down to if you have the time and knowledge to make the claim by yourself or not

im okay with paying the charge if needed i was just unsure if its a random company or if its someone Motonovo has instructed to contact me. last I heard from Motonovo they were going to be in contact in due course so this Courmacs Limited was very random lol

Is the correspondence from Courmacs genuine?
Could it be a fishing exercise on their part?
Did the online form you completed indicate that information would be shared externally?

Have you ever used a claims company previously for something else (such as PPI claim) ? and if so, you may have also given them permission to represent you for other claims in the future.

So, aswell as you going onto the MSE website to enquire about car finance, Courmacs Legal may also have looked into it for you.

Raise a complaint with Courmacs saying you have never employed them or signed anything.

or if its someone Motonovo has instructed to contact me.
Motonovo would not use a claims company that then passes the cost onto you.  That would be a breach of FCA regulation.

If you used the form on this site, it's a scam, the MSE form just sends it directly to the firm

If you meant to use this site but googled it and followed a link to a copy site and signed up with a firm, then you owe them

I would suggest as above that you find out how they got your details

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Keep that acknowledgement from them on your files.  Just in case.

Martin Lewis doesnt have a website? There is the form on MoneySavingExpert and whilst Martin setup the site he sold it many years ago but still gets paid to allow them to keep using his photo.

If you google something like "Martin lewis car finance claim" there are several companies advertising on those terms so maybe you signed up with one of them?
