OP, you risk a much longer delay by sending a letter in place of PA15. The probate registry has a generous number of lightly trained staff (who made phenomenal progress in reducing waiting times last year) and a dearth of experienced staff. The letter will cause your application to be stopped and referred upwards. According to the April stats just published, this will add a further 18 weeks to process your paper application, on top of the 4.5 weeks if not stopped (average figures).
I believe KP is right, you need to part fill a PA15 then ask Hugo James to complete and return it to you. Good luck!

Sorry this is not more helpfull but I have experience of this.

Hugh James produce a proper Deed of Renunciation in accordance with Tristan & Cootes. (The probate practitioners definitive guide.)
The Probate  Registry have produced a consumer friendly version of that in the form of a PA 15.

The first tier clerks are programmed to reject anything that is not a PA 15 which meant that our application had to wait for a second tier clerk to recognise the correct procedure originally supplied by Hugh James.
