signed for parcel

I was sent a parcel (Royal mail signed for), but it was just put through the letter box, is this the norm? and what is the point of paying the extra cost? when i looked at (track my item) it shows time and date when exccepted at parcelshop but nothing about when it was delivered to me.

Is this the same parcel as in your other thread?
If so, it would be better to keep all communication within the same thread.

If you are the recipient what do you care? "Signed for" is normally for the benefit of the sender who wants enhanced evidence that you got it but doesnt care so much about the contents value or speed of delivery to pay for Special Delivery.

During covid it became normal practice. It was supposed to have returned to normal practices of actually getting signatures but undoubtedly some prefer the quicker method of just posting it through and not have to wait at each and every door to see if someone is in or not.

Possibly it was photographed prior to being put through the door - the name signed for is a relic from pre-covid times.
Signed for is a waste of money as it has the same service and compensation as ordinary post.  RM24 or 48 is much better value if you want proof of delivery and a much higher level of compensation.

Signed for is a very poor service and has very little use. RM48 or RM24 is much better.

Whether or not a signature is obtained still seems to be a bit hit and miss.

Hi,the reason i care is my sister sent me a parcel which did not arrive, so when she sent me another parcel she paid extra for (signed for) thus (A) did not get the service she paid for (ie) no enhanced evidence i got it ? (B) what if it was to be delivered to (HMO) ?

Hi, did not say photo only on label, and if it was photographed prior to being put through the letter box, where is her proof it was delivered ? and also what if it was a (HMO) ?

They will take the signature of anyone at the property, not just the named recipient. Were that not the case then probably most would never get delivered and there is no faffing about with recording ID of the person and so it could be the named recipient it is handed to and for one of a number of reasons the person decides to give a false signature.
