Hi,
I have to admit that I don't know much about the south coast. But I'm looking for a nice little seaside town (like hunstanton if anyone knows it). A few attractions would be nice, but I'm more interested in the sand and a bit of space to muck about. Ideally there would be a campsite near by (for tents).
I don't want to go as far as torquay, so Southampton area seems a good place to start hunting, but if someone has any other suggestions....please let me know.
I thought that there would be some bright spark here who knows of the perfect spot.
Thanks

Swanage in Dorset fits the nice small seaside town with attractions, including steam railway to Corfe Castle. Several campsites.

Hmmm well as I live in Southampton, I can state that there are no nice sandy beaches around this area! All we can offer is Weston Shore and Netley! Which is why we tend to migrate to the Isle of Wight or Bournemouth
Everywhere else that people have posted here are nice areas though and so is Christchurch and Mudeford beach. As andy said, the New Forest isn't far from there, so you could camp in the Forest and then visit the beach..................oh and of course Southampton if you like!!! Well knowing Hunstanton well, and having been at uni in Southampton, I would have to say to find something similar you need to go a bit further and onto the IOW.
If it doesn have to be the south coast then I would say Bridlington and Mablethorpe are very similar to sunny hunny.Always on the hunt for a bargain0 -
And if its definately south that you want and you want sand how about saunton sands on the north devon coast, its beautiful, and good for surfing, there are several campsites on the main road down to the beachAlways on the hunt for a bargain0

Ditto to the above! Southampton is a city and probably only good for shopping or erm.... well?? (as far as holidays go that is) - if its the beach you want then you need to head left, right or further south!! I'd probably head for the new forest which is only about a 30 minute drive onwards and nice beaches and stuff down there too! About the same time away in the other direction you have Hayling Island which has a Haven camp on it I think and sandy child safe beaches too. Depends where you are coming from and what you are after from a hols? The south coast is lovely but just depends what you want to do really! good luck & try one of the south coast tourism sites for more info??Official DFW Nerd 2100 -

I love West Wittering - Its a fab beach and we stay until really late and have a bbq on the beach once everyone has gone home. Its great fun. Be warned to move your car out of the carpark before it closes its gates - And the queues for the beach are mammoth on a sunny day - everyone has the same idea and it can be hectic.
I have lived in Southanpton for 7 years now and I think that its a fab place to be. You are surrounded by lovely places to visit and loadsa things to do.
Have Fun!!!:heart2:Mum to my little Daisy 3 and Archie 1.:heart2:0
