Move the chair out of the porch.
Big sign, with arrow pointing to letter box, "For security purposes, all post through here please".
It's most probably not personal - just habit.

Lol Rusty, there was a big sign with arrow for 2weeks 🙂
    A small sign before that.
    Each saying 'please'

Yes it is a good idea to discuss the matter with the post person.  The door situation, you have to admit, is unusual.   You have a front door without a lock on it.

I think the key phrase though is "For security purposes...."
    I wasn't insinuating you were ill mannered!😊
It may never have entered your postie's consciousness, that leaving your post in an accessible position poses a security risk for you.

Would something like https://www.screwfix.com/p/smith-locke-compact-post-box-white-powder-coated/3780p - a post box which is secured outside of the porch an option for you?

If you require accessible service, I wonder if your local delivery office has something to make the postie aware (similar to how the refuse collectors know if a household needs an additional attention)

Mistral it isn't the front door without a lock, it's the sliding door to the porch.
It was put on by the first owners for a wheelchair to be stored conveniently.
It's not that unusual around here to have a double glazed porch with a door.

I even laid the path so the previous posties could walk quickly and easily on a level between properties. Tempted to block that and make her walk up and down steps 😈 but I won't - yet.

Possibly not Rusty. I think that was a word I used initially, then all was ok but I found that was because it was a replacement postman who I spoke to who said he always put post in letter box and would have a word.
This sounded an amicable resolution but obviously she took umbridge.

Ok, I'll give that one more go.
It would suit me to put it off till next week. I still have to contact the person who cut down an ivy tree on my property with bats and fledglings in, dumped the remains as well as their own, broke up a gate frame.
Honestly I live somewhere nice and friendly. Just the universe has dumped a bundle on me at the mo.
Chair because warm place to read with view of the hills

A porch without a lock then.  Not many of those about.

Now that you have shown a photo the courier probably just does not want to step through the glass door as they probably are not sure whether that would be legal or not? It looks a lot like they would be illegally entering the property if they stepped through the glass door especially if you are expecting them to literally open the door themselves so to be safe they probably just chuck it on the ground. I don't blame them.

From your photo - 2 things that would make me reluctant to step inside your porch.

    1. Your pale coloured floor covering - I would be concerned about leaving filthy footprints, and

    2. Related to above - your coir mat needs moving so that it is stepped on immediately when entering porch rather than being in front of house door.

You've convinced yourself that your postie has taken umbrage when it could possibly be that you have the most thoughtful postie in the country! 😉

No, as before, 7yrs the post has gone through the door.
No one worried about the old worn carpet. It's been bone dry here for about 2mts.

She had to step on the carpet to put post on chair and past the letter box.

I have put up signs asking her to step in.
