My wife rang them earlier today and they have agreed to reduce the price to £5,900 but will take out the sink and the tap, and - they say - prices are going up this weekend.

My first instinct is that this is still too expensive and I'd like to get quotes elsewhere (Selco would be my first port of call).

Can I assume that the "prices going up this weekend" is just a ploy to get the sale?

Thank you!

"prices going up this weekend" would immediately make me walk away.

Did they mean list price will have gone up, or the £5900 offer will be withdrawn?

Exactly! I hate the strong-arm tactics, it's a real turn off.

Not sure on either, waiting for my wife to get home to get the details.

Could be viewed as a contravention  7 of schedule 20 - Schedule 20 Commercial practices which are in all circumstances considered unfair of the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024

"Falsely stating that a product will only be available for a limited time, or that it will only be available on particular terms for a limited time, in order to elicit an immediate decision and deprive consumers of sufficient opportunity or time to make an informed choice."

This lack of transparency and "fluid" pricing is something they have been criticized for widely.  Enough of the it's £20k but we can drop it down to £10k, It's £20k if you deal with Tom but £10k if you deal with Harry or it's £20k but we can price match Magnet and do it for £10k nonsense.  Your price is basically £10k so stop trying to mug people off. You are a major national company not some shady back street outfit.

Have you compared like for like on DiY kitchens?
That will indicate if the price is ok.
We sourced our own sink , tap and hob and saved £1k on the quoted price of our kitchen.

£6k seems expensive for a small kitchen but I imagine prices have gone up a lot in the 8 years since we had ours.

I haven't gone through your list to compare with mine, but my kitchen is about 5m x 3m and Howdens quoted about £7000 and said they will price match a quote from DIY Kitchens, which was a little less but not much. I got it elsewhere for about £6000. "Elsewhere" have been a lot of hassle (wrong stuff delivered, take ages to get it right) but it will be fine when it's finished.

    Thanks everyone.

Wife has come home, she stopped at Wrens on the way and is going to get a price from them tomorrow based on the plans we had so at least we're going to have something to compare to!

I wouldn't use Wren as a comparison for anything.

Don't rate Lamona appliances. From what I've seen of them, they look like rebadged CDA appliances (which are pretty crap in their own right).
Don't see any mention of a ducting kit for the extractor hood. It should be vented to the outside to be compliant with current Building Regs. But with filters, I'm guessing they have specified a recirculating model.

In a 2x2m kitchen, that number of full height units & wall cupboards is going to make for a very cramped space. My kitchen is just 2.4m wide, but a little longer at 3.4m. No wall cupboards or full height units, and with a light colour on the walls, the space looks quite a lot larger. OK, storage is an issue, but it helps to discourage hording of tat'n'crap.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

OP do heed these wise words of warning and research wren kitchens thoroughly.

I thought Howdens didn't deal directly with consumers but only did B2B sales.

Is this a quote from Howdens or from the installer?
