Sky wifi max

Does anyone know if a Wifi max router bought off eBay would work on Sky's basic FTTP deal. Looking to get a wifi 6 connection but no point spending an extra £4 pm if a £15 second hand box off ebay works fine. I assume the FTTP routers are like BT's and have a standard login/pass for all FTTP.

No reason to specifically get a Sky one, you could pick up any third party 6E router (e.g. Amazon Eero 6, Google Nest Wifi Pro, etc) and connect it the LAN of the modem they send you.
It's very useful when setting up a smart home as it means you don't need to update the network settings on every device when you change provider and they inevitably send a new modem (well technically you could do this regardless by using the same SSID but I like to come up with excuses to buy things).
No real need to do anything with the settings either (except disable the WiFi on the modem to prevent interference I guess?).
It is probably obvious and I expect you already know this, but just to say it anyway, a higher bandwidth router will not increase the bandwidth being provided to the house.Know what you don't0 -
Thanks but I'd need it to be a Sky router because of the landline connection and don't want to daisy chain other devices to it.0

We've never had a problem connecting out BT Whole Home mesh wifi network to our ISPs modem/router.

You say you "don't want to daisy chain other devices to it" but respectfully I suspect this is an irrational response and you may not understand what is being suggested. It's not some sort of bodge or dodgy way to link up equipment, it's a single Ethernet cable connecting your ISP's modem-router to the third party router, and then every other device just connects to the third party router like usual - it's an incredibly normal and common way to allow people to set up much stronger WiFi 6/7 mesh networks where they otherwise would not be able to.Know what you don't0 -
Thanks, I understand what's being suggested that a separate router would handle wifi, just don't fancy linking another router to the modem if Sky's Max router can handle it all in one wifi/phone/modem especially as you can pick them up for little over a tenner on the auction sites.
Mainly asking if anyone's simply used a Max router off the auction sites with their Sky BB. I know the EE wifi 6 routers can simply be used to replace the BT Smart Hub 2 without any problem0
