Virgin TV alternative...?

Options
A bit of a strange request this however let me try and explain... My mother in law (recently widowed) is in her mid 90's. She has Virgin TV and landline phone (historically has had for some time now). Specifically she has TiVo + Maxit TV + and add-on of TNT Sports. She also has M50 Fibre Broadband, however this has not been activated so I don't think this appears on the monthly bill? The monthly bill (bundle charge) is £57.93 excluding phone calls outside of contract. She is only interested in home land line (for emergency / immediate family calls), Tivo + Maxit TV but definitely not TNT Sports.

So, the question is: is there another service provider/product that can give her landline, terrestrial TV and 'enhanced' TV (similar to Maxit TV) without sports and the need for broadband?

There's a question before getting to other providers, and that is does your MIL's property have other TV/Broadband/Voice infrastructure supplied by BT or any other operators than Virgin?   And if so, what is it?

The basic point being that you cannot use Virgin's connection to obtain services from other operators.

Are yo usure that the 'landline' isn't actually now a VOIP service that makes use of the broadband - Virgin switched my parents landline phone over several years ago now.
Check to see if the phone is connected to the router - if it is then it won't operate during a power cut.

The first step will need to be to work out who will offer you a new install for their service(s) and at what cost.

If you want "landline" then your MIL will need a physical connection to the premises.   It's probably worth asking BT for a quote for a new landline first.    You can then investigate with Sky etc., what they can do for a new TV service installation.

Why don’t you just ring virgin, tell them what you need, get rid of TnT, and they will give you a price.  If she is out of contract, which i suspect she may be, put a cancellation in if you’re not happy with the price, and they may call you back with a far better offer.  Don’t take the first price they offer, unless you think it’s a good one obviously.. do not forget to tell them her age when explaining what you want.  You should be able to get that on a retention deal in the thirties.
