PlusNet advice please!!

I have read a varied amount of mixed feedback about PlusNet by users here in various threads, I am thinking about signing-up with them as they seem to be decent... but one thing is not clear to me: in their options are the GB download limits per month or per day? I mean I could easily download over 1GB of data in one day, will that mean for the rest of the month I won't have any more internet access? Even 8GB a day seems quite limited...

Also if anybody has experience of PlusNet please do share in this thread.

A former colleague has been a PlusNet customer since they started up and swears by them, he is on a ridiculously cheap unlimited per-month package due to his loyalty, which admirable coming from an ISP!

    :rotfl:

You are obviously looking in the wrong place then, as these limits are per month.

Any ISP offering a package limited to 1GB per month is havin a laugh!

Been there, got the T Shirt, they were good when I joined, they went downhill rapidly.

Very slow speeds at busy times etc.
  • We're with Plusnet, £9.99 per month. The limit is 1GB per month.

Fine for us as we only ever browse for a couple of hours a month max. Never had any problems.

By the way, if you do sign up, Quidco offers £28 for doing so at the moment. :)

The reviews are definately very mixed nowadays. My family uses them and hasn't had any problems, the speed, reliability and tech support are all fine. That said they haven't been affected by the email loss problems and the last time they contacted tech support was some time ago.

Their limits are on a per month basis however the limits are for "peak" time only, I'm not exactly sure of the hours peak time is in effect but outside these hours you have "unlimited" usage. If you go over your "peak" usage you start to pay.

8gb a day is a lot!!! What are you downloading? If you're definately downloading that much a day then you're going to have a limited selection of ISPs to choose from as limits/throttling are increasingly common. Even "unlimited" ISPs impose limits of sorts in the form of throttling your speed and/or warning you about your usage.

We have been with them for 3 years now without any problems at all, we have broadband, telephone line and phone calls with them now. We get loyalty discount every month for sign ups and have recently signed a 12 month contract which offered us £5 off each month for the first 6 months. We were not going to leave them anyway so were happy to sign up.

It is a monthly allowance. If you want more than 1GB a month, you can pay for a more. It isn't a fixed limit. Also, between midnight and 8am (I think), access is unmetered so you can schedule all the mega downloads then and not use any of your allowance. However, the cheaper Plusnet packages (option 1 and possibly 2) are heavily throttled for P2P use.

If you want to do over 8GB a day during peak hours, best look for another ISP.

    edit:
You also get ace support from James and the rest of the team.
