Thoughts?
O2 haven't "forced" you to buy anything. There are a number of places that would have been happy to sell you a 4G phone. What phone have you bought?
PAYG deals are hard to find, see this recent thread for ideas

Thank you for your reply. I certainly did not buy my 'new' 'phone from 02, but the company did force me to purchase another 'phone because it is switching off the 2g service here in October, and 02 is the best signal here. I purchased a Nokia 110 for a very reasonable £25.99. I hope this clarifies the position.0

Not really, O2 are not switching off their 2G signal for the foreseeable future. Are you referring to the 3G signal?Ronceraie said:

Since you have purchased a "feature" (aka "dumb") phone then you've probably replaced similar? That replaced phone would probably have continued to work just fine on 2G.
Could have bought that phone at Argos for £19.99.0 -
If you want to stay on O2's network then look at Giffgaff, you can operate the account as a PAYG but make sure you are happy with the PAYG (out of bundle) costs for calls/texts - 25p/min & 10p/text.

It would be interesting to see what o2 actually told op about the withdrawal of 2g. It would seem that they are winding down their 2g offering, including restricting roaming....

If you're looking to stay on 02 check out tesco mobile;

O2 ARE migrating customers away from 2G (as are other networks, it’s just that O2 has more). This is to free up space to be allocated for emergency use, IoT and M2M. So whilst they aren’t switching it off normal customers won’t be able to use it.flaneurs_lobster said:
