Typical British Airways flight prices

I'm in a bit of a conundrum and not sure what to do 😅
We are looking to go on a family holiday to Zell am See in Austria next year. There's reasons why we specifically want to do Zell am See rather than anywhere else in Austria. We can only go on holiday in term time cos of my job (work in a college).
Flights to Austria seem to be so much more expensive than other European countries e.g. Spain (I know it doesn't help that we can only do term time). But I found flights with British airways and accommodation separately for April 2026 for only £1600 which is an amazing price. But I was about to book

but then I read online that a ton of the places we would want to visit while in Zell am See are likely to be closed, not opening til May 🙃 so I'm wondering if that's the reason tickets are so cheap especially considering it would be in school holidays 🤷♀️ we could choose to stay in salzburg instead in april and do other things, but honestly my dream was to do zell am see.
So I thought I'd take a look at first week of July 2026: even though I work in a college, I finish earlier than other schools: last week of June, so we could go away term time early july. But flights with BA don't get released until 355 days in advance so I'd have to wait til mid July for flights to be released and see the prices. I would hope that it still being term time that prices would be affordable, but I don't know if prices would be hiked up cos its July, even though term time still 🤷♀️
So does anyone know roughly how much prices for London-Salzburg are likely to be early July 2026? Is it worth me waiting to see? Or should I book for April 2026 and have a slightly different holiday (probably salzburg itself where more things will be open)? Cos if I wait til July and then find July 2026 is too expensive for us, April 2026 tickets may have shot up in price 😢

Flights are priced based on demand, if something decreases demand they get cheaper, if something increases demand they get more expensive.l.c.elliott said:I'm in a bit of a conundrum and not sure what to do 😅We are looking to go on a family holiday to Zell am See in Austria next year. You take a risk either way. You could book cancellable flights, but they are usually more expensive in the first place. You could fly to a totally different location with more flights that may well be cheaper. You could fly to a different airport then get the train, which are much better and much cheaper in most of Europe. As an example you could fly to Munich, which will probably be quite a lot cheaper, then get the train to Salzburg for €16 per person if booked in advance and it takes 1.5-2 hours depending on exactly where you are going to in Salzburg.l.c.elliott said:So does anyone know roughly how much prices for London-Salzburg are likely to be early July 2026? Or you could do it by train all the way (with an overnight stay)Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Thank you, we did look at doing Edinburgh to munich (Edinburgh is also a much more convenient airport for us than London) but it's 4+ hours of travel the other side, 2 changes, just worried it'll be too much for our kids (they're 3 and 6, both autistic). I suppose we have to decide what we value more: spending less money, or not having an incredibly long travel time 🙈MattMattMattUK said:

Are you saying BA prices are low or high prices?
Are other airline prices higher or lower than BA?0 -
Flights in July will be expensive. Firstly because it's July. Secondly when they are released they tend to be quite expensive anyway since the demand is often initially high when flights are released (some people - like you - need the security of those dates). You'd be better off waiting a little while after.l.c.elliott said:So I thought I'd take a look at first week of July 2026: even though I work in a college, I finish earlier than other schools: last week of June, so we could go away term time early july. The flights to Spain, particularly if you mean the major holiday destinations such as Malaga, Palma, operate full every flight in the summer season. The high demand drives up the supply and, hence, drives down the cost. Every budget airline will happily take you to Malaga.l.c.elliott said:

Salzburg is less popular, more business travel, so less flights and the price rises as there is less competition.0 -
Are you considering only British Airways? From a quick check, both BA and Ryanair fly from London to Salzburg. Is Innsbruck an option? Easyjet fly to Innsbruck from London.0

I checked ryanair London to salzburg and there are no flights after March 2026 that I can see, unless you can see something different?TheShape said:Are you considering only British Airways? Good idea about easyjet to innsbruck, I'll take a look.0 -
I only noticed that Ryanair currently fly to Salzburg. Didn't check the schedule for next year and can see nothing scheduled after March. Don't know if they are are yet to schedule that route from April.l.c.elliott said:

Ryanair don’t release flights 350-360 days in advance like most scheduled airlines, they do it in batches around 8-9 months ahead. So just keep an eye out.0
