I am trying to decide between the basic sky package, virgin and community fibre - are there any great channels on sky that I would miss.

Sorry for the vague question.

So far as I understand it, the basic TV packages are essentially Freeview plus a couple of random "extra" channels thrown in.  It tends to be only the premium TV packages that have sport or movies or such like.

What TV do you have now?
You can't miss the great channels on Sky if you've never had them.

If you want the basic SKY channels, than rather than Sky itself , I'd go for a NOW TV package as there is no contract, you can stop and start it as you wish each month

I think this very much depends on the type of TV / shows you prefer watching.

We don't have Sky (never have) so we don't miss what Sky might be showing.

Unless you are a fan of American cop dramas ,there seems to be little reason to take Sky Entertainment (or whatever it is called currently)on its own .I only have Sky for Sports - and as other broadcasters buy up the rights ,it is getting less and less attractive .

The main difference between Sky channels (and Now entertainment), and the Sky channels you get through VM etc. is Sky Atlantic. If you go online and see what's on Sky Atlantic, that should help you decide. We watch a fair bit on Sky Witness which we get through our VM bundle. I'm not willing to pay the extra for Now entertainment for one channel yet though.

Sky witness and Sky showcase are part of their more premium bundle, which does have a lot of decent programming. Eventually it all ends up on Dave or some other minor channel though. I'd say Sky Atlantic and Sky Witness are where most of their premium TV shows go first, so if that's what floats your boat, head in that direction.

    That is very helpful.

SKY Atlantic, Witness and Showcase are all on NOW along with other channels and many shows are available on  catch-up. The most recent offer they made me was for 6 months at £5 a month, I pay £2 a month for Boost which gets 2 HD streams and no ads on catchup. I prefer to watch shows pretty much as they are shown in the USA and not a few months (SKY) or even many years later (Dave) so use another streaming service.
