Nope, every card ive had its on purchases for the duration of the 0% periodSam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

I have been stoozing for many years and MBNA is the only 0% purchases card I have come across with a short time limit on eligible purchases - limits on transfers is much more common.

There's lots of discussion here about what is, or is not, "usual". At the end of the day, whichever is correct is quite irrelevant. Don't make assumptions either way - but DO read what the T&Cs (NOT just the "main points" (advertisements) on the application page) actually say. That way you will always find out about anything unusual, or where you may have made an invalid assumption.2
