On my bill is : "save £31.40 by switching to Octopus 12M Fixed"
But I am already on that tariff - expires in 2 months - so how do they calculate this saving ?
it seems very precise - so is there another version that's cheaper than my version 1 ?

If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.

Perhaps the new version has a lower unit price or SC?

There are many tariffs called "Octopus 12M Fixed".  I'm on one that runs Dec 2024 to Dec 2025

    Almost certainly.
Your existing fixed tariff will have a date as well as a version.
The currently-available fix is called "Octopus 12M Fixed May 2025 v2" and, as you might guess from the name, wasn't available back in August 2024 when you took your existing fix.

Because your existing tariff expires in 2 months, the saving is probably calculated by comparing what you would pay if you take out a new fix with what you would pay if you just went on to the SVR when your fix expires.

When you're on a fix Octopus hide the switch tariff link in your account on the website/app.  However the link is:

    https://octopus.energy/dashboard/accounts/A-XXXXXXXX/tariff-renewal/#/

Replace the A-XXXXXXX with your Octopus account number.  Check your existing fix doesn't have any exit fees!

This is one thing that annoys me about Octopus - I asked them why I received the message and was told that there MAY be a cheaper tariff than the one that I am on - "Octopus 12M Fixed August 2024 v1"
No mention of the fact that I am free to change tariffs - because I am .....and what tariff IS cheaper for me  !

Hi - if your comparison is based on comparing taking out another fix with doing nothing an going on to the SVR when your current fix ends (which it probably is) then because no supplier knows exactly what the SVR will be all they can ever do do is tell you what MAY be cheaper - never what IS cheaper. Hope this makes sense?

Thanks  - that brought up a cheaper fixed tariff to start in August - saving me about £30 !!
Standing charge is roughly half what I am currently paying which makes a big difference to me as an extremely low user !!

You can probably start it sooner than August, if you want to begin saving now?

Chances are when you go through the process to change on-line, because on a fix, it will not work at the final stage and you will have to telephone them to get it done, if so make sure they don't swap the variable direct debit (if on it) for std dd, as happened to me, requiring another phone call to switch it back. Their fixes could be a touch cheaper if they eliminated the need to phone in for such things.
