What annoys me about couples on holiday is they have nothing to talk about so they bit*h about other guests in-resort.  I dodge them whenever possible and don't like walking towards them on promenade or wheverever.  I enjoy going on holiday on my Jack Jones, no-one to moan at me and I can eat seafood night and day.

I have a few single friends, and I don't think I've ever asked the question! That's maybe because they volunteer some information (eg one friend goes on 'organised' walking holidays with a specialist company which they name when they say where they're going), or because I know they're perfectly capable people. If they wanted me to know they were going with someone, then they'd tell me!

Do people in relationships get questioned as much about who they are going on holiday with as single people?

Of course not.  it is not an obvious question for a couple.

I'm also long term single and nowadays no-one asks, though they used to.  I remember saying "people from the internet that I've never met before" in 2002 when a group of us from an online game (Everquest) had a guild meetup in Europe.  "Oooh, be careful one of them might be a serial killer" was a literal reply I got in one case  :D !

I do a mix of completely solo travelling and some with tour companies, depending on the destination. So in recent years I've done Paris, Amsterdam with a day trip to Antwerp, Ghent and Copenhagen solo, then Trevi (in Umbria in Italy, not the fountain) and massive tours of  Egypt and Turkey visiting historical sites with tour companies - solos, exodus and Jules Verne as they all had itineraries I'd never have been able to manage alone.

People that know me know I'm happy travelling alone, don't need to talk to fill silence and entirely happy sitting in a restaurant on my own (I admit it took me a while to realise why on earth shouldn't I be?) so have stopped inquiring too closely.

Or, to put it another way, the answer is typically more obvious for a couple.

I'm long term single, not happily, but I'm very used to being single and in my own company.

Most who know me, know this, but I've had so very many questions about who I'm going on holiday with I wondered if it was unique to singles or not?

My answer is usually followed by a head tilt, sympathetic look or a "oooh you're brave" comment, sometimes all 3! 😬

Personally I never ask anyone that question, single or otherwise.
    Hi kx

    I hear you
I (mostly) always travel solo mostly cruises.

Whenever I tell someone Im going on holiday I also get 'the look' & comments you describe. No one ever says have an amazing time !

On cruises I sometimes share a table at dinner & get the same remarks always (all nationalities). Some even 'defend' their husbands thinking I'm there to steal them (couldn't be further from the truth) 😅.

On saying that I also meet loads of solos on a cruise & have a great time.

There's lots of us living our best life

    I wouldn't worry 😊

Last day but one of my fabulous holiday!

I'm abroad and yes been asked more than once if I'm on my own.

However what an attitude difference, everyone is genuinely interested when they ask and enthusiastic when I say yes, I'm solo ❤️
