How can 1 US company be worth more than the top 350 UK companies?

Options
There are 3 US companies valued at over $3trillion each. Nvidia, Microsoft and Apple.

The combined market cap of the top 350 UK companies is $3trillion.

I don't really understand how that can be possible considering we're the 6th largest economy in the world by GDP.

Considering the age of our country and the economic projection we used to have in the early 1900s I'm genuinely shocked we don't have a company that has breached the $1trillion mark yet.

Is AstraZeneca at $220billion really the best we've got? $220billion falls just shy of McDonalds market cap but slightly higher than Intuit, whatever that is.

Why do you think stock markets have anything to do with economy sizes? Companies are not restricted to operating within the borders of the country who's stock market they're listed on.

Don't confuse economies with markets. Different things
People often make the same mistake with India and China

Those companies make huge profits. They are all virtual monopolies. It is almost impossible for new companies to compete with them, but competition from China may not be far away. We have nothing to compare. We have been in decline for a very long time, and that is not likely to change.

    ....
Don't ask us.... ask the 350 UK companies how long they would remain in business (and profitable) if those 3 US companies vanished overnight.

As above, GDP is irrelevant, but for the record, the top GDP is nearly nine times that of the sixth, so don't be swayed by positions in a league table.

The age of the country and what it was doing over a century ago are even less relevant....

It all in who is valuing the companies. If these companies were on a uk stock market then their value would be a 10th of the us value. Why do you think so many companies move their listing from the uk to the us?
