Cost for high end bathroom refurbishment
Hi,
My family had a bathroom refurbished on our property, using an original design and two builders constructed the bathroom according to this design. There is now a freestanding bath and also a walk-in shower. Underfloor heating has been installed.
The bath was moved from its previous position and, to accommodate the new pipework for the bath, a raised floor with steps was built from scratch. The shower was built from scratch. The bathroom, including the shower, was tiled. Also, wooden panelling was created to match the existing window frame and bay window. And a demisting mirror and a heated towel rail were installed.
All the bathroom work was included in the builders' general invoice for work done throughout the whole property. There has been a lot of informal discussion about how much the bathroom work by itself should cost.
For the bathroom work, labour only (ie not including the actual bath, toilet, sink, mirror, heating mats, tiles etc which were all supplied by us) how much very roughly should this cost, please?
Thank you in advance for any opinions on this issue.

Surely you agreed a price for this work before starting on the rip out and refit? Why are you querying the labour costs now?OneTwoThreeFourABCD said:Hi,

How many days did the job take? How many trades were onsite?OneTwoThreeFourABCD said:how much very roughly should this cost, please?
Anything bespoke built to fit is going to be time consuming.1 -
Did that include all the units for the bathroom ? We spend £5K on the vanity unit and bath. Tiles included ?
Why not post a picture of the finished product ?
Really need a lot more information, labour only ?0 -
Like others, I question the motive behind this thread, but without a significant amount of detail, it's hard to give any meaningful reply. Especially if materials are built into their pricing.
Know what you don't0 -
I’m going to guess all in about 25k, based on it being London or SE. Design, high end fittings, and a reasonable amount of plumbing being moved. We did something similar a few years ago, and there’s been a good deal of trade inflation since then…of course that’s for the whole job including all the fittings from scratch, which isn’t quite the same as what the OP has had…1

The trades were a carpenter and a multi-skilled builder.

Thank you for your opinion. Appreciated!
All fittings and fixtures were paid for by our family. But the shower was completely constructed by a carpenter. The work was done in Scotland. Having said all that, would you still be estimating around 25k, or would you be thinking of a lower figure?

Clearly lower, based on having the fixtures etc paid for and it being in Scotland…1

You clearly have a figure already, and I guess you aren't comfortable with it? At the end of the day what someone else paid to have work done has little relevance to work you have had done (and I presume) agreed with the builders beforehand?OneTwoThreeFourABCD said:Labtebricolist said:I’m going to guess all in about 25k, based on it being London or SE. We had quotes that were 100% (literally double) on all parts of our build ranging from the original quotes to latest solar panels updates.
For what's it's worth our bathrooms were probably the most expensive part of the renovations we did, we hit £2200/sq meter for renovations on the whole house, I would estimate the ensuite bathroom in the master suite was close to £4000/sq meter, but cost is including the actual building of a room from nothing.2 -
Thanks. The work was done without a fixed price for the work. That is why I'm seeking retrospectively to estimate the labour costs that would be average for a high-end, bathroom.Labtebricolist said:Clearly lower, based on having the fixtures etc paid for and it being in Scotland…0
