Change name on Sky account

Getting divorced and want to change our Sky account of 30-odd years from joint names to that of my ex only as they are remaining in the property.
Sky are refusing to make the change, saying that the account must be closed and a new one opened.
Has anyone successfully gotten a name removed from a joint Sky account? It's been easy enough to do on every other service / utility but Sky seem to be very unhelpful.

Just close the account & let your ex open a new one.

Not the solution I was looking for. There's a lot of discounts on that account and freebies. They work from home so having to cancel the broadband and phone line and set that up again will be disruptive.0

Sky do not do joint accounts, they just allow an extra authorised user but that person cannot cancel or take over the account.
You have no option but to cancel and order again, with equipment having to be returned as well.0 -
Ah. Ok. It's been so long since it was all set up. I'll double check the details. Thanks for the tip.0

That isn't Sky's problem sadly. You either keep it as it is, or you cancel & re-open. Chances are if your ex explains the situation, they should be ok to have to supply of internet disruption kept to a minimum.fluffymitten said:Not the solution I was looking for. Whose bank account is the direct debit paid from?
Just pay it from whoever's bank account is watching it.
It doesn't even need to be the account holders bank account.0 -
Before I posted my question I searched the forum and most of the results were about problems resulting from not properly changing the account owner following events such as divorce. Not only do I not want hassle when something needs to change in the future once the dust has settled, I also don't want to find myself on the hook should the bill go unpaid. At present it's paid from our joint account and can be easily switched but, legally, I would still be responsible.JohnSwift10 said:Whose bank account is the direct debit paid from?

Understood, was just providing some context for the preference to change the name rather than close the account and open a new one0 -
Don't forget, if the account is in your name then you're responsible for returning the equipment, if it isn't returned then they will come after you for the money.fluffymitten said:Penguin_ said:
