Passport dates

Hi everyone 👋
I an a newbie and wonder if you can help. My daughter has a trip to Fuerteventura booked on 17th June returning on 21st June with Easyjet.
Her passport date issued is 26/8/2015 and her expiry date is 26/09/2025

Is she OK to travel with this passport.

She’s done an online application for a new passport but is worried about sending her old one off in case the new one doesn’t come back in time .

thanks so much and here’s hoping for a positive response. If not …. PANIC 😱

Personally I wouldn't be risking it on the existing passport. But I renewed mine about 10 months before expiry, as I had a few months added on to the last one, and I travel a lot for work. (Renewing then was better as it was a quiet period for travel.)

If she sent it today using the quickest possible method, her new one *should* arrive in time. Alternatively quicker renewals are available for £££

*Looking at the gov.uk guidance and the dates, to say she's cutting it fine (if it was valid, and I don't think it is) is a bit of an understatement.

I think you need 3 months passport validity and the passport is only valid for 10 years from date of issue, ignore the expiry date. Based on that I believe the passport is not valid for travel. The turn around times on renewals are fairly quick so if it was me, I would try and get it renewed ASAP, some sites say around a 3 day turn around from the passport office receiving the old passport.

Does she also have a GHIC and travel insurance sorted out for the trip?

The GHIC is free (don't pay any money for this) and is also essential to have, as well as travel insurance.

Get the passport renewed, turn round times are around a week IF the photo is approved and the old passport sent expeditiously.

I think that it's OK, rules are passport less than 10 years old on date of travel - she meets this. And must be at least 3 months till expiry on date of return (not the anniversary of the start date but the actual expiry) - she meets this too - just.

Just to be clear in case of any confusion, your first post is wrong, and the second leads to the correct answer, i.e. that OP's daughter's passport is valid for the specified dates!

Frustratingly I bet a lot of people won't get to the bottom of the thread and your post and just read that post - which is wrong. I find it odd that people are still making mistakes over this.

The passport is valid for travel. It's a binary thing, so it either is or it isn't. If she is denied travel that that will lead to a claim of IDB. Yes it's close but it's still valid.

Yes, what was particularly odd with this one was that the poster actually provided a link to the correct information immediately after giving the erroneous interpretation, without any attempt to delete the first post or even to highlight that the second one contradicted it, hence my post to clarify!

Only another three years to go....

It's a green light according to TUI passport checker website.
One observation - does a 10 year passport issued in 2015 finish one calendar month beyond the precise tenth anniversary of issue ?
Both ours, issued 2020, finish exactly ten years after date of issue.
