dual audio output tv

We need to buy a tv that is capable transmitting sound through the speakers and through my huband's widex tv play unit at the same time.We have already made a mistake in assuming that if the tv has an optics out socket we would be able to do this, only after speaking to a very helpful tech advice person at toshiba did we learn that we need to make sure the tv has the option of dual audio output, and that in fact no toshiba does.So we have a lovely new tv which is not quite lovely enough for both of us!
Can anyone suggest a make/model for us?Ideally under £250. As we live out in the sticks we have to shop online so any help would be appreciated, thankyou

What is the current model of the TV?

toshiba 43UV2F53DBU
The sound can either come out of tv,or direct into his hearing aids via the widex tv play,we cannot do both at the same time.0 -
It would be extremely unusual (unheard of) for an optical out port (once enabled in TV menus, if not enabled by default) to not work as well as the TV built in speakers.
Random Toshiba 55 inch Freely TV manual says:When the connection is completed, press the Home button on your remote control, select Settings>-Sound>Audio Output and select the SPDIF option. If connecting via HDMI ARC (or eARC) to a soundbar or AVR set of speakers you may well have problems (as ARC or SPDIF may be mutually exclusive... that's where < hdmi ARC audio extractor > boxes might come in handy.
When a digital audio system is connected to the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT port, decrease the TV volume and use your digital audio system to control the volume.
{Big issue always will be if the sounds from both devices (speakers and hearing aids) are 'in sync' or give echo problems / visible lip sync errors for one or the other user.}0 -
Looks like Samsung TVs that have "Multi-output Audio" will do what you want. It's often listed on the Samsung specifications under "Accessibility" options.
How about this one

thanks for replies, maybe I wasn't clear in that we cannot hear from optics out and tv speakers at the same time,it's either optics out or speakers.I contacted toshiba and the tech support man said that is not possible to use the widex tv play and listen through speakers at the same time and that they get several calls from people in the same situation.Having been told we need a tv which has dual audio output instead I was hoping there would be a quick way to find out from retailers websites but it seems the only way to see which make/model would work is to look at the actual manuals and do not want to make another mistake.thanks again0

Seems a need for a more expensive solution like a soundbar and hdmi arc extractor - or a different TV... If you can return the Toshiba.
Next time take the hearing aid box along to get a demo of both working together at a reputable retailer (Richer Sounds, Hughes, John Lewis etc.,.).
Panasonic TVs often have analogue (and/or bluetooth) headphone out with its own volume control as well as TV speakers (and optical, probably - I've not tested). BT lip sync was well out with my earbuds, though.0 -
With all TVs I've had with Optical Out, the output is completely independent of any sound produced by the speakers.
Check it is enabled in the menu.
Suggest you check with another optical cable.0 -
Still believe that Samsung I quoted might do what you want. Follow the link and there are links to product support who might be able to answer your very specific questions.0

Only if the OP can return the Toshiba for refund should a different brand TV be pursued (in my humble moneysaving view). Perhaps they should ask the retailer they purchased from for some practical help (or a friend, family member or neighbour with some technical expertise)?0 -
