Help needed please..!! Barclay Bank Additions

Options
My wife moved from manchester to live here around 3 years ago. Since then she hadn't used her barclay account for anything...

So we've just been to the bank and found out her bank account had -250.00 in it...

They said she had included an addition where 9.50 a month is being withdrawn for the last 3 years. My wife told she remembers talking to the bank about this but did not agree to 9.50 to be taken out her account every month.!!

So we have just put in a complaint and we going to receive a call within 48 hours...

has anything similiar like this has happened to anyone in the past... ?

If so what was the outcome?

Any advice will be appreciated...

One more thing if they don't refund this is there any place higher i can take this??

Thanks

  • is it part of the terms and conditions that £9.50 will be debited each month?

has she not been receiving her statements?

unless you can prove she didnt agree to it it will hav to be paid. sorry. if it states n the terms that it will be debited for her type of account then the best you can hope for is they knock some of it off as a goodwill gesture but i think this is unlikely.

if its not in the terms he onus would be on barclays to prove she agreed to it some other way.

The account should have benefits associated with it. If you can point out you haven't used or would never have used them, it has got to be in your favour.

Friend proved she had been miss-sold using this, she had been anyway, got all her money back.

    hi thanks for replying...

yeah she never received any of the statments as she moved address when she came to edinburgh 3 years ago..

I don't think she can prove it.. but then i don't think they can prove it either..

She remembered having a conversation over the phone with barclays to upgrade on the account but they never mentioned any money being taken from her account..

Also she hasn't used any of the beneifts from her account... she hasn't put money in or withdrawn money from her account for almost 3 years now...

In reply to AL mac.. how did you friend proved she had been miss-sold this? Just my wife is saying the same thing but she is unable to prove it...

Barclays have a central complaints handling department who are very good and in my experience usually very fair. They tend to deal with the more complex complaints and Platimum Account customers. They are keen to keep the good reputation of the bank and will often sort out issues there and then.

If you don't get any joy from the people you're already dealing with, let me know and I'll try and find the number for you.

Barclays offer a Platinum account to certain customers, it is operated as part of the "Additions" type accounts. You can find more details about the account and a link to find out eligibility requirments on this page of their website..

    Does this answer your question?

Do you have it? I have two of those products in the list £10000 saving and a life assurance policy, why have they not offered this to me??

Yes I do have the account, it costs me £12pm but as it provides annual worldwide travel insurance, a recovery service from Green Flag, in addition to some other benefits that I doubt I will use, I think it is worth it. RAC cover alone was costing me £10.50 per month.

If you have £10k saved with Barclays then you should be able to get the account. However if your savings are less than 10k you will need to have two of the other products; life assurance being one of them.

My local bank manager contacted me about the account, if you haven't been offered it and you're eligible then give them a call.

I'm pretty certain it isn't credit scored, my credit file doesn't show a search and I didn't sign anything to authorise one. AFAIK it is based on products that you have with the Barclays group.
