Can I cancel new Sky FTTP broadband and go elsewhere?

Because I have Sky Q TV, when Openreach installed FTTP in my street I contacted Sky to install FTTP broadband and so far Openreach have installed a fibre optic cable to just outside my lounge wall.
The next stage is for Sky to send me a router and a ONT box to be installed in my lounge.
This should happen in 2 weeks.
After the ONT box is installed but before I use the router and internet can I cancel Sky broadband and go elsewhere without penalty?

When the ONT is installed Sky will activate the service there and then.
You'll have to read the contract you have signed with Sky regarding the timeframe for cancellation.

Do you currently have Sky FTTC broadband ? , if you have currently have broadband from Sky and are inside a minimum term , then normally if you cancel the ‘upgrade’ to FTTP then the terms of the previous agreement are reinstated, so ETC is payable for the remainder of the FTTC contract if you quit Sky completely .
If you have broadband from someone else , cancelling Sky , providing you have done the cancellation within Sky’s T&C’s timeframe, shouldn’t be an issue, but if you don’t want to use Sky why would you order FTTP with them and not whoever you intend to bin off Sky in favour of ….
If you think this is a way to avoid Sky FTTC ETC , by migrating to FTTP and then cancelling within the cooling off period, hoping that the previous FTTC contract would also be cancelled , that usually doesn’t work.0 -

My current broadband is with Virgin Media and I am cancelling it when I get FTTP installed.

why did you order with Sky , only to get the installation started , and then want to cancel after the infrastructure is fitted but not connected to the Sky router , with the intention to then order with someone else , what’s the advantage doing that rather than simply ordering from the start with the second ISP .
It seems as though you have got the CSP on the outside wall , but waiting for the internal cabling and ONT to be fitted ( to be done by Sky as some Sky installers have been trained to do this , and have the system access and are able to authenticate the ONT supplied by Openreach ) , if you let Sky do this second stage , they will expect to fit the Sky router to demonstrate the service working , if you basically refuse to handover the Sky router so they can’t book the job off , that may leave your address in a type of limbo , partially installed, I don’t suppose it’s that much of an issue unless Sky also refuse to authenticate the ONT without you handing over the router but I can’t see the advantage of doing this anyway , ordering with Sky but always intending to use someone else , why didn’t you simply order with whoever it is you want instead of Sky from the start , doing this seems needlessly complicated2
