Best way to track someone

Unless you superglue an Apple Airtag to them of course, as you'd do for an elderly person0

I don't use any social media but I'm reliably informed that Snapchat has a tracking facility built in.
Now, whether this is public or whether it can be restricted is beyond me.0 -
better is to log into www.icloud.com/find which doesnt require 2FATadleyBaggie said:You don't have to use an Apple device to use FindMy, simply logon in any browser/device to "iCloud.com" with the appropriate Apple ID and FindMy is available.
The AirTag is the one most likely to be picked up as all other iPhones near it will also be broadcasting its location.
The problem with festivals is there can be too many devices trying to use the same services so reception is poor but ultimately if he has poor reception then you are going to have the same problem with every solution and at least the AirTag has the better chance0 -
since you are android, use a motorola moto tag app on the phone.
Buy a moto tag around £30 and give it to them

I'd love to know if someone thought otherwise. I mean, what would the thought process be for that to realistically believe it? That OH got taken in to Apple-labs, put to sleep, had a chip inserted so that they could be tracked ... all without their knowledge??RavingMad said:

But anyway, moving on....
I'm curious as to why it is "better" to log in to that URL via a website (vs just opening the app up on their iPad)? I'm not challenging you - I'm here because I don't know about this stuff (although do know enough to know that it doesn't track the actual PERSON!) so I'm just simply asking.DullGreyGuy said:

Because as far as my knowledge allows me to understand it - I log in to their iPad (I know their PIN (they know I know their PIN - they gave it to me (have to explain this as I know how tetchy some can get))), open the app & it just shows stuff. So why would a website be better? As I imagine opening a website would then send a code to their phone (or similar) and depending on signal then they may or may not get that code & at any rate they'll be wanting to concentrate on enjoying themselves not faffing with codes?
Regards your festivals comment, I think last year it was at the o2 arena (I may be wrong there, I'd have to ask), this time it's at a football stadium. Just mentioning that in case it matters any.

B0bbyEwing said:For the life 360 of you - do you use the free or paid versions? For just simple tracking I think free seems just fine unless I've missed something? I don't need to see where they were 30 days ago.
Also if you had the option of using their own device (ipad left at home in our case) is there a reason you'd use life360 over FindMy on their device? Other than life360 being an app on your own device so therefore you may say it's 'easier' or more convenient, although as I sit down for my tea & both devices are on the table, neither would be easier than the other to open.
Just to be clear, I'm not trying to poo-poo anything here. Just seeing if one will give benefits the other doesn't.
Life360 free version is fine. When someone you are sharing the app with moves you are sent a notification. You can choose to ignore or just open the app and see their progress.RavingMad said:We use WhatsApp and Googlemaps, neither are great
How does Life360 work? Do you have to open the app every time to share your location with others?
I believe Apple's Find my app is always on unless disabled as is Google maps
We all use it on our phones, both Android and Apple. It's main use if for when someone is travelling to check on progress.

I'm going to hazard a guess that they're joking purely because of their end 2 words because who'd even say that? We're not in a formal meeting or anything.RavingMad said:
Why even bother posting on here? Lots of people, me included, want to know our families are safe and not in a ditch somewhere. Nothing sinister about thatNewcad said:B0bbyEwing said:.... they're the one who wants to be able to be tracked, so we can also discount the 'spying on' side of it as well. And you expect that we will just accept your word for that ?Sorry, others may reply but as far as I'm concerned there is no chance I will accept such an unsupported statement.
If they're actually being serious then they can do as they please. I'm not here to try and convince a bunch of people I'll never meet the reasoning behind my question, I'm just here for an answer - which I've got & thanks.0 -
I've installed Life360 on mine and wife's phones now. Seems to work in the background without the app needing to be open as you set location sharing to always on.
Now to catch the kids 😉1 -
The post I was responding to said to go to iCloud.com whereas I said it was better to go to iCloud.com/find because the former would require 2FA whereas the later doesnt. Wasnt suggesting that it was the best possible approach, just better than the one suggested. I assume the original responder was thinking of you using your own device rather than having access to one of his devices.B0bbyEwing said:

The 2FA code by default would be sent to each of their devices so in principle you could pick it up from the iPad but that means you have access to the iPad which means its easier to just use the iPad and the native app.
I go to the O2 regularly as its only 1 tube stop from home but cannot recall their signal and/or WiFi, plus most the time we've not in the arena itself which is where you are more likely to have concentration issues. The open air nature of a football stadium may make things slightly better in terms of signal however stadiums probably have much more capacity for people so could be offset by more people being there1
