How accurate are smart meters compared to bills

Hi,
This is a small issue in the grand scheme of life but irritating for me.
Woke up Monday moring at 06:00 and noticed my smart meter was unusally high for that time of week, since the meter resets Sunday midnight.
On further investiagtion on the meter it showed that £3.63 or 21.95kWh of gas had been used since midnight. How since there was no heating or cooking carried out during those hours?
I expect a little amount for standing charge but not that amount.
As mentioned small issue but annoying if it is correct and the supplier does this in many homes it can be a nice earner.

Did the boiler heat the hot water cylinder in the night?0

I don't trust these meters and regret getting one as it was sold to me on the basis I could see at a glance how much i was spending. I can only see the charges for the electric but it wont show me the gas charges and it took them 9 months to say - it just won't work..happens in some homes' - There is not problem with our internet as the electric meter is right next to the gas meter.
Eventually, we will all have them and I guess like anything, there will be a percentage that has problems but I wish I had not changed over as the reason I did this for, the information is not there at a glance - so pointless waste of my time and loads of stress.
Are you sure the heating did not come on?
Are you on one of those night rates where it is cheaper to heat water at night etc0 -
@cgphillips8
Have a look at your energy graphs for the consumption charges for the last few days - just wondering if the system is playing catchup
Not the heating was it - mine cut in early one chilly morning this weekNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
That is not your smart meter, that is your In House Display, IHD, your smart meter records your usage and that is used for your billing.1

I assume you are talking of you IHD (the little box on the table/shelf) . That is not the meter, but I am surprised that 21.95 kWh of gas is costing 3.63 even if that includes circa 30p SC, that suggests3.63/21.95=0.165 per kWh of gas which is ludicrously high.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . There could also be a connection issue - the IHD ( In House Display - NOT the Smart Meter ) connects to the meter to get data around usage.
Also have you checked the tariff rates on the IHD are the same as your bill?0 -

I would suggest that th IHD is reprting wrongly, however it does not have any effect on your bill, the meter is the source of your bill. Check what your supplier says on its web site/app for the period. Having said that the supplier probably will not get the gas readings for at least a day.4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex .
