PAYG options?

Any suggestions for true PAYG options as opposed to the contracts and bundles that seem to be dominant now?

I used to use 1P mobile which was fine until they started reducing the period in which you had to top up. When it got to £10 every two months that was pouring money down the drain as I'm a very light mobile user. I'm currently got RWG Mobile but they have a very strange SIM and their customer support is non existent. I've never experienced such abysmal customer support and my last top up of £5 took several days to credit my account.

So I;m looking for something else. Please dont recommend all these cheap £5 a month contracts as its still money down the drain to me. I'm a very light mobile user making usually only a couple of calls and texts a month and most just use it for incoming calls. And I dont use Data. So I just want to put £5 or £10 on the account and use it occasionally. Even if the call cost is a bit more expensive.
As I said I thought that I'd found a solution with RWG mobile but they are absolutely abysmal.

So any suggestions for PAYG would be appreciated!

There are posts on this board about RWG effectively being taken over/run by NOW Mobile who have always been the provider of their service. Posters have been saying that NOW CS have managed to resolve their problems, so you may want to stick with it, and contact NOW if you have a problem.

As for alternatives, there isn't much of a choice these days for us very light users but FIRST you need to check which network you can receive with a good enough signal on 4G ideally and 2G as a last resort (or if your phone doesn't do VoLTE).
If you can get a decent O2 signal in the places you want to use your phone, I believe you can still get the O2 Classic PAYG SIM from some sellers on eBay, often for £1 or less. Rates are 3p/min 2p/text 1p/MB but never change or add a bundle or you wont' get back to the Classic service without a new SIM.
I was also going to suggest ASDA which run on the Vodafone network but they don't seem to do a "bog-standard" PAYG SIM any more for new customers. Whether you can "manipulate" things by just paying for the first month, I don't know, I'd have to read all the small print. Edit: It seems you just don't need to have a monthly plan at all, but costs are 15p/min, 10p/txt & 10p/MB.
Other posters may come up with other options, I haven't reviewed things lately so a bit out of touch.

I am like you and have Asda

30p a call and 10p a text - my 5 quid often lasts two years but lost most of it once due to loads of data being used when i turned on the mobile wifi for a few minutes

Recently we went on hols to a Canary Island and got a 7 pound bundle with loads of data and free calls and texts, it was payg

So - Asda do the PAYG that does not expire at the 30p per call and 10p text - you have to make one paid call/text within 90 days IIRC BUT check

I have an ASDA PAYG on an old dumb phone which has no facility to use data.  As above it costs15p/min for calls & 10p per text.  It is piggybacked on Vodafone (they have changed network several times).  I keep it as an emergency back up phone, which has the advantage of being small enough to slip in a pocket.  To keep it alive I have to make one chargeable call/text every 6 months AND top up £5 likewise.  If my credit builds up through lack of use I make a donation to charity by phone.  Usually send surplus to the annual Poppy Appeal instead of dropping cash in a box.

What are the call/txt rates for ID mobile? I cant seem to find them. Will keep trying.

Thanks all for comments about RWG. That explains things a bit, maybe they'll improve now under NOW. Still not impressed with their weird SIM though.

Any others that I should consider?

OK I've just looked at the ID website. Slightly confused though. Do I just purchase the cheapest SIM which seems to be £6 and use it for 30 days, then just top up with say £5? Although I cant see how to top it up?

    Not used ID yet,but i think,you order a sim,pick a bundle,and use it for a month,but dont auto renew bundle.
The sim reverts to payg. Top ups you do at paypoint stores,or currys stores
Also top up in ID app
