My RWG sim only makes calls when it feels like it

I have an old RWG sim which I keep around as a spare, and occasionally I ring my landline to keep it alive. I find on the first few attempts the dial out immediately fails, but on the 6th or 7th attempt it decides to ring out.

The sim has a good signal, and there's another sim in the phone which always connects on the first attempt, so what's going on here?

Is that a good 2G signal? or is it 4G? I have the same issue if it's a poor 2G signal, I don't think the RWG service works with VoLTE (and you phone may not do that anyway?).

4G, usually 2 bars out of 4 on the signal. The phone also has a 3G option which puts it into 2G. With that, I get a bit more signal and it seems more reliable, so maybe that's the answer here!

The (continued) lack of support for wifi calling and VOLTE was the reason I dumped RWG some time ago.

Yeah, although I'm sill not quite sure how they manage to this day to give people calls, texts and data allowance every month with no requirement to top up, albeit no longer for new customers.

Not wishing to hijack the thread, but does anyone know if WiFi calling and VoLTE work on a branded NOW SIM on EE?
