I have not come across this type before. Is there a special tool?
Thanks

Clean the holes - is there thread inside?0 -

Thanks. This one is similar, but the holes are positioned differently. They are close to the side edges.grumpy_codger said:https://www.lowarthpaving.co.uk/product/aluminium-recessed-manhole-750x600mm/ ?

However, maybe the same lifting tool works on both types? I cannot see/feel a thread, but the holes are deep enough for one.

I've had to lift quite of them. In theory you can get them up. In practice you stick the Kango through them and fix the drain problem and renew the cover.
At least you know where the manhole is.0 -
Get a thin blade and a stiff brush and use the blade to remove the debris between the lid and the frame, once that is clear place a sturdy bit of timber on lid and hit with the largest hammer you have, going round different places on the lid.Keep doing this till you brake the seal between frame and lid.
When you come to lifting out the lid have a broom handle ready to kick into gap and the roll out lid on the broom handle roller.0 -

It has, apparently, been lifted fairly recently by a surveyor. I have neaded to lift a few drain covers before, and know what you mean, but it is getting something to lift BY that has me stuck.Eldi_Dos said:Get a thin blade and a stiff brush and use the blade to remove the debris between the lid and the frame, once that is clear place a sturdy bit of timber on lid and hit with the largest hammer you have, going round different places on the lid.Keep doing this till you brake the seal between frame and lid.

A bit desperate! Plus, the paving to hide the cover has been done well, so it would be a shame.stuart45 said:I've had to lift quite of them. In theory you can get them up. In practice you stick the Kango through them and fix the drain problem and renew the cover.

If you cannot find suitable lifting keys, the last resort would be the handles of side cutters or pliers pushed into slot and then lifted just enough to kick rollers in.Chickereeeee said:

But doing it this way you are never in complete control and the metal around the slots looks flimsy for the weight.0 -
Actually I think I have found it! Following a circuitous route, I found this one, which has a similar hole placement, and includes info on the lifting tool!

Thanks all!

People are often desperate to have their drains unblocked. However, if you can get the cover up without any damage it would be a good result.Chickereeeee said:

This is more pre-emptive inspection, though.
