That seems the perfect solution, JB - thank you.
Office 2024 for around £15. With support for 2016 seemingly ending this year, that's an added reason.
Soooo, unless anyone says "NNOOOO!", I'm going for that :-)
    Thanks everyone - fab stuff.
Use FRESH20 to get 20% off.

I'd seen that, and then missed it. :-)
    All working perfectly so far.
The site claims it's fully legit. Are there doubts about this?

It would hardly claim otherwise would it?

"Please enter your credit card number into our highly dodgy website".....

    Eek!
Seriously, tho' - is it 'known' to be, what shall we say, breaching MS's whatsits?
Or is it one of these places that bends the rules via a loophole, whilst not actually breaking them - like a bulk-buyer of licenses like wot a PC manufacturer would do, and they found a way of 'legit' selling off individually?
Surely MS would have no issues tackling them otherwise? It's a pretty prominent website.

I haven't had to enter my code. I haven't 'signed in' yet either.
I would like to add it to my MS account, along with my new W11, to ensure I get updates, so suspect the code will be required then. Hmmmm...

Trust Pilot says it’s OK 😂

It is very difficult to confirm the claim that they are a Microsoft Partner, whatever that really means.

    Check the Company Number on:
    https://www.gov.uk/get-information-about-a-company

Then look at their “London offices” on Google Maps and also their registered address.

    Still for less than £20…

What's the worst that can happen. It stops working.

MS are not going to pursue an end user for having a less-than-kosher copy of Office.

I'm probably over-sensitive to these kind of issues. Decades ago I worked for a small software house who had a product that was sold to insurance brokers, underwriters and others. It was licenced to them on a per PC basis and being a specialised business product the cost was significant. Back then it was difficult to secure software and we relied largely on trust between professionals (much of the City worked on the same basis) when it came to them declaring how many machines the program had been loaded to.

We were regularly shafted, often blatantly so.

No real comparison between a small IT supplier in the 80's and the largest company in the World but it still rankles.

The more important issue here is to make sure you actually get genuine software, rather than a cracked version. Download and install the software directly from Microsoft, and then use the activation codes from whichever seller you end up going with to activate the software. If the provided code doesn't work with genuine software, or they try to direct you to download "their" version of the software then something fishy is going on, and you either demand a refund or get your bank to force through a chargeback if they don't comply.

Yes, the download was from MS. I have no concerns it's the correct software.
I note it flashes up LTSC when loaded, which means 'Long Term Servicing Channel'. Does that imply anything?

I'm reluctant to give my data to a random company on the www. Don't forget that you are giving them your bank card details, as well as name and address.

No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
