I got this from Argos and it said it supported contactless payments but when I try to pay it says doesn’t support tap to pay?

It supposed to have  NFC. Download Google Wallet and put your card onto the app....Turn on NFC in connectivity ......have you done this? If no NFC on phone return it.

If your Moto G24 isn't making contactless payments, check if NFC is enabled and that Google Pay is set as your default payment app. Ensure your device is unlocked and meets security requirements. Verify your card is added in Google Wallet and that the shop accepts mobile payments.
Here's a more detailed breakdown of troubleshooting steps:
    1. Verify NFC is enabled:
    • Go to Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > NFC.
    • Make sure NFC is turned on.
    2. Check Google Pay settings:
    • Ensure Google Pay is set as the default payment app.
    • Go to Settings > Apps & notifications > Default apps > Tap & pay.
    • Select Google Pay as the payment default.
    3. Verify your card is added and set up:
    • Open the Google Wallet app and add your card.
Ensure you've completed all necessary setup steps for the card in Google Wallet.

My youngest has a G22 and that does contactless.
NFC is in Settings under Connected Devices > Connection Preferences exactly as described above.

It seems that there are versions of the G24 (for some non-UK markets) without NFC, or it could just be faulty.

Regardless, if iNFC is not available on the OPs phone then it's a clear case of not being the product advertised (with NFC) on the Argos site - return it.

Currys have the moto G24 with NFC. Amazon has one that doesn't. So its typical Argos not checking their description. return it

It should be possible to query the phone to get exactly which variation of the model it is but,TBH, does it matter?

    Not as described, return it.

    Some confusion

I purchased a G05 same price it seems but the one I got doesn’t have NFC. Similar numbering. Typical as they seem to be churning out lots of these cheap ones think there’s an e15 no nfc. The one I had worked with NFC maybe e13 or something and then it stopped working and Google told me I needed a new phone. My iPhone is my main phone but yes a bit frustrating

So you wanted a G24 but purchased a G05? By mistake, or on purpose?

The first digit is the model range. Higher numbers are higher spec.
The second number is the year of release.
So for example your G05 is the base model (range zero) for 2025. My kid's G22 is a higher spec but the 2022 version. I'm typing this on a G53 - higher spec again, from 2023.
