Thanks for the link, small drop in s/c for both gas and electric - still a long way to go before they get to a reasonable level. Gas has dropped nicely on unit rate but won't be using it until the winter fuel payment is reinstated, which now seems possible, or at least not impossible.

    Thanks for posting.

I wonder how many people are actually on the price cap tariff now and how that compares with the number before prices went crazy in the post COVID / early Ukraine war period? I get the impression that although "normal service" has been resumed and there's plenty of scope for money saving by shopping around, there are still too many people who could do that but aren't.

They are at a reasonable level if one has the will and capacity to understand what they pay for.

Yes indeed, absolute bargain when you stop and think what you're getting for your money.

Like many solar panel owners, I get my Feed-in Tariff and Smart Energy Guarantee payments from the standing charge so I am fortunate. Others maybe less so.

And I will put my hand up as someone who went for a fix a few months ago. I'm not that worried about it, just a bit bemused.

EDIT: Though, on re-reading the OP's post, 'still higher than my new fix with EDF'. I'm on EDF too, so perhaps it wasn't the bad decision it (in hindsight) appears to be.

Interestingly after all the hype to fix before the announcement Eon have dropped their cheapest 12 month fix by £80 from yesterday's cheapest - now the lowest it has been for a while. My fix ends in Oct and I am holding firm at the moment but this new fix is only £1.50 pa dearer than my daughter's one week later than my fix.

I think TGH was suggesting that the standing charge is is well covered by the fact that he gets FiT and SEG and so is happy to pay

With the big drop in gas unit rate it would have been the ideal moment to have gotten rid of the gas s/c and not dropped the unit rate so much, keep the Greenies happy as well as easier to justify heat pump running costs if the gas rate is higher (I know the electric and gas rates are interconnected at the moment but that is wholesale rates not consumer rates).
