Which retailers offer contactless cash at till (cash back) using Apple Pay with Amex, in the UK?

I have iPhone with Apple Wallet app, in which I have virtual Amex card and need to access cash with this, if possible, while my physical Amex card is damaged. I have made purchases using my Apple Wallet, with my Apple Pay and Amex, but have not found a retailer that does cash back at the till, unless I use my physical Amex card.

    Yes Amex allows cash advances.

There's a MSE article about getting cash at till from LINK/Paypoint retailers. It specifically mentions Apple Pay as a method of payment. It's a couple of years old and says the limit is £50, don't know if that has been increased.

An aside, Amex have been very efficient at replacing lost (and presumably damaged) cards in my and others experience, often in a matter of 2 or 3 days.

Doubt anyone would... cash back is normally limited to debit cards because merchants pay a percentage transaction fee for credit cards

Which retailers offer cashback at all nowadays? I normally use the card only checkouts, but when they are all busy, I use the checkouts that accept cash. I pay by debit card, but it is a long time since I was last offered cash back. I live in an area with a huge number of cash machines, so it is not a cash desert.

I've no idea who does, or doesn't offer cashback, but I seem to remember that retailers were banned from offering it. There was an issue, possibly with people overspending, and retailers were told to stop proactively offering it at the till.

Local shops round here all offer it.
Morrisions, Sainsburys, asda etc all offer it.
Would not expect any retailer to offer it on contactless though. Cash requires PIN for security.

Sorry, I'm not sure I made that clear. Retailers liked it, as it moved cash on without having to take it to the bank. The people on the tills previously used to say: "Would you like any cashback?" if you paid by card.

My understanding is that retailers still offer it, but the customer has to actively ask for it. Till staff aren't supposed to proactively offer it.

Perhaps that is it. I pay by contactless at a self service checkout. If I pushed my card into the reader, I might well be offered cashback.

One of my old bank accounts used to list cashback as a separate line on the statement so total £X with £Y goods and £Z cashback - but only that single bank broke down the transaction.

The large retailers negotiated a fixed fee for each debit transactions so supplying cash meant they didn't have to bank that cash plus some of it was often spent in-store on goods so a win-win for them. I think it's a percentage based fee now so less lucrative.

A family member works in major supermarket. They don't normally give cashback anymore - they direct them to the ATMs and only if they're down is customer services alone allowed to provide it.
